Hands bumpy with calluses I remember, but gentle and worshipping too, trail up and down my back, soothing me in ways that spark fresh tears.

“Christ, baby, I can’t bear to see you cry. It’s tearing me apart. Open your eyes now,” he coaxes.

I shake my head again, even as my fingers clutch at a handful of his shirt. “I’m so terrified you won’t be real.”

His massive chest rises and falls and he pulls me closer.

Close enough for me to feel other hard parts of his body.

One hand leaves my back and fingers tunnel into my wet hair. His grip is firm but gentle as he tilts my head. I feel his hot gaze on my face.

“Open them, Kitty. Tell me why you’re crying so I can fix it. Tell me who I need to kill to make you feel better. Now.”

My eyes fly open. “It’s you! I’m crying because I didn’t know where you were! Because it tore me apart to think for a second that I would never see you again.”

He exhales shakily, his throat bobbing as he swallows. “Oh thank fuck. You missed me? Really? You still want me?” Wonder infuses his words.

I rear back, fear disappearing and anger taking its place as I glare at him. “Are you serious? I’ve been going out of my mind, Monroe. Sick with fear that…that y-you…that I’d never see you again, and you?—”

“Shh. I’m sorry, but I needed to hear it, baby girl. You have no idea the torment I’ve been through trying to get to you.” If his ragged tone is anything to go by, then yes, I have a fair idea.

“Tell me,” I demand anyway.

He stares down at me for several seconds, then shakes his head. “That doesn’t matter now.” He squeezes me tight, lifting me off my feet.

I don’t need a second invitation to wrap my legs around him. His hands immediately grip my ass, grinding me into the solid rod wedged behind his fly.

We both groan, thrown back to the stolen hours when I first did that.

“All that matters is that I’m here. You’re in my arms again, baby.”

This is real. He is real. Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you.

“How though?” I push tearfully, clutching him tighter with both hands. “My father said he didn’t know where you were. That you’d disappeared?—”

“We’ll talk about all that later, baby, I promise.” He drops his head, presses a soft kiss to my forehead, then a harder one on my temple. My cheek. The kisses turn frantic as he charts a path to my jaw before growling, “Right now, Daddy needs you worse than his next breath.”

Kitty

The forbidden term triggers electricity in both of us.

My next breath stutters, my nipples immediately peaking into tight, painful buds.

He feels my body’s unfettered reaction and a feral growl jumps from his throat. “Did your tight little body just get a wakeup call of who it really belongs to?”

“Yes,” I whisper.

He spins on his heel and crosses over to my bed in three long strides. The fingers knotted in my hair convulse as he stares deeper into my eyes. “Good. And have you been a good girl for Daddy?”

“Yes,” I wail a little louder, my core turning molten at the rough need in his voice. It echoes my own, repelling the desperate torment of missing him.

The devastation isn’t entirely gone.

It’ll take a while for me to fully accept that he’s here. Finally. Until then, I’m holding him as tight as I can.

He stands me on the bed, eyes locked on mine as he tugs the towel loose. It pools at my feet and I’m naked before him, watching his eyes turn to living flames as he devours me.
