“Good to know,” Izzie responded. “And Annie has someone lined up who can meet these specs.”

“Then we should be okay, especially if Annie is recommending someone. You know how she is. The best or nothing,” Yoko added.

Myra peered over Yoko’s shoulder. “I haven’t seen these plans yet. The complex looks fantastic. It will be such a wonderful addition to the town center. Very exciting.”

“Well, if there is anything else you need me to do, please let me know,” Zoe offered. “By the looks of it, you have everything under control.”

“Can we call on you if we need an assessment while we’re under construction?” Yoko asked. “I’m still working out the exterior landscaping design.”

“Of course you can!” Zoe replied. “And I would be delighted to confer on the conifers. We are here to help one another.”

Izzie held up her hand in the Sisterhood fist bump. “Whatever it takes!”

Zoe jumped in. “Whatever it takes!”

They all laughed, hugged, and finished up their java. Izzie and Zoe then walked Myra and Yoko to the door, Rufus leading the parade. Myra put her hands on Zoe’s shoulders and looked her straight in the eye. “I don’t want you to spend any more energy worrying. I want you to stay focused. You are our boots on the ground. Once you get the devices from Sasha, we will also arrange for you to get a tablet so you will be able to share information on an encrypted site.”

Zoe finally had a look of confidence on her face. She was assured that Myra and company had everything in hand. She was confident she could take an active role in her very own caper.

As soon as Izzie’s two guests left, she checked the clock. “What time is your train?”

“Three o’clock,” Zoe replied. “Should get me in by six.”

Izzie scrunched up her face. “Let me see if Sasha can meet you earlier than planned, at Penn Station. Just to be safe. Hang on.” Izzie pulled out her cell phone and dialed Charles’s number.

“What can we do for you, Izzie?” Charles said by way of greeting. He often used the word we because most action involved all of them.

“Hey, Charles. Do you think Sasha might be available to escort Zoe from Penn Station? I’m sure she’ll be fine, but the last time Zoe was in New York and near train tracks, she got a good scare.”

“What time?”

“Her train gets in at six.”

“Hang on,” Charles said as he sent a text to Avery. Within a few seconds he got a reply and returned his attention to Izzie. “Right. Sasha will be waiting at the platform. Tell Zoe to exit the train at the front of the café car. She needn’t look about. Sasha will spot her. What will Zoe be wearing?”

“Zoe can’t be missed.” Izzie grinned at her stylish friend. “A blue plaid duster. Tell Sasha she resembles Anna Wintour.”

“Indeed she does have that look about her.” Charles smiled into the phone. “I’ll convey that to Avery. Mind how you go.”

“Roger that.” Izzie ended the call and spoke to Zoe. “Sasha will be on the platform when your train arrives. Get off at the front of the café car. Don’t look around. She’ll find you and shadow you.”

Zoe gave Izzie the biggest hug she could muster. “I’m all atwitter!”

“As you should be. We’re taking down the bad guys.”

Izzie helped Zoe with her overnight bag as Rufus looked on. “So nice to meet you,” Zoe said as she bent down to give him a hug. He gave a woof in return.

“I’ll drive you past the site and then we can grab a bite at Doris’s Diner,” said Izzie.

“Sounds good to me!”

Rufus gave Izzie a sad look. “Okay, you can come along. It’s nice enough so we can sit outside.” Rufus’s tail went crazy wagging, thumping a rhythm on the floor.

Izzie punched in the code for the alarm and they piled into the SUV. Zoe rested her head against the SUV window as they pulled out of the driveway. “I’m glad your contractor couldn’t do the work.” She turned to Izzie. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come down here.”

“Well, it really had been much too long since we got together. I know people always say, ‘Let’s make a plan’ and they either never get around to it, or the plans get canceled and never rescheduled.”

“You are so right. Why is that?”
