“You’re going to come for me,” I said. “You’re going to come without me touching that clit.”

To touch her there, she’d have to sit up, and she felt too good pressed against me as I fondled her ass. Besides, by the way her pussy tightened around me, she was close to shattering.

I squeezed her ass, then gripped her hips, lifting her slightly. She moaned at the action. Her walls hugged me. I would come if I took it any further.

“Don’t stop, don’t stop,” she begged. “I’m coming.”

“Then take me with you,” I rasped as she sank back on me.

My cum filled her as she rolled her hips, riding out her release.

With her arms still around my neck, she lifted her head, smiling. “We did good, see? I kept my head on your chest and only moved my hips occasionally.”

I chuckled. “You did good, baby.”

“I like having you inside me,” she whispered right before she kissed my lips.

“Careful, please,” I said. “I don’t want to bump your bruises.”

“You’re good, Hudson. Do you know that?”

“I wouldn’t say I’m good.”I thought back to any of the fuckers who hurt Genie. I could kill Jerry or her ex and never feel guilty if given the chance.

“You are. You’re a good person, a goodguy. I honestly didn’t think I’d trust someone like I do you.”

My heart felt like it would jump right out of my chest. “I’m good because of you.”

“I love you, Hudson. Truly. I felt so guilty when I found out what you did for me. I didn’t tell you what was happening when I should have. You hate what happened, and so do I. I now see my mistakes. I know I’m not someone you pity. I’m not someone you’ll grow tired of when things get hard. We’re just in this life together. And I am happy since meeting you. So happy, Hudson. I hope you stop worrying because I’m fine.”

She wiped my eyes.

I took a moment to compose myself before saying, “I’ll stop worrying when you go for the checkup. Or maybe when the bruises are gone. But I’ll always fuss over you, Red, because you’re my girl. I can’t be happy if I don’t see you happy. I love you so damn much.”

FORTY-SEVEN

EUGENE

Six months later

I’d just come home from work. Hudson’s truck was parked in the driveway, but I didn’t see him anywhere. It was one of those rare occurrences where Hudson didn’t work, and I did. “Hudson?”

No response.

As I stepped into the main room, I spotted Max hunkered down near the recliner. “What are you doing, Bear?” I asked, then noticed something black in his mouth. “What is that?”

He army crawled away when I tried to get closer before darting into the bedroom. Hmm. Clearly, Max knew he wasn’t supposed to have whatever was in his mouth.

Following him, I found him sitting beside the bed with a black box in his mouth. Then I heard the shower running in the bathroom. So, that’s where Hudson was.

With a smile, I dropped down beside Max. “What do you have?” As soon as I took the black box, it became apparent what it was. All the blood rushed to my face as my heart hammered.

It’s an engagement ring!

My brain had already decided what it was before I opened the box. Then I opened it and saw the sparkly diamond ring. My brain said again, “It’s an engagement ring!”

I fanned my face because it was so hot. My heart literally felt like it grew wings and took flight. I giggled as my eyes watered. Oh, my God. Was that really what I thought it was? Hudson wanted to marry me. He was going to propose.

Suddenly, the shower cut off. Panicking, I closed the box and shoved it toward the dog. “Where did you take it from?” I whispered.
