She narrowed her eyes, then huffed. “Well, I’m going to sleep.”

I stood. “Me, too.”

“Goodnight, Hudson. Try not to fall out of bed with your silk.”

“I’m not wearing my silk pj’s,” I corrected her.

“Oh, that’s right.”

I smirked. “Goodnight, Red. Try not to create another hole in your shirt. You won’t have much left if you keep it up.”

TWENTY-THREE

EUGENE

“Mr. Tall Drink of Water keeps staring at you,” said Loretta as she nudged my arm.

I glanced toward the kitchen door quickly.

“What are you looking over there for? I’m talking about table four. The tattooed hunk wearing a hat that Georgianna’s been waiting on.”

“Huh?” I murmured, and my cheeks heated. The first place I thought to look was in the back. Why?

I peeked over at table four and immediately locked eyes with the man Loretta spoke of. I turned back quickly.

She laughed. “See? I told you.”

“Stop,” I whispered. “We’re being so obvious about staring right now.”

Loretta was right. The man was handsome. He had brown hair, dark eyes, and tattoos inked all over his arms. He was a book boyfriend come to life. I couldn’t believe I had zero response to how gorgeous he was. It likely had to do with acertainsomeone staring at me every night while I read. If I could get used to that handsome man eyeballing me constantly while living around him, I might as well have conquered my libido.

I flinched when something soft swiped my face. Looking up, I saw the back of Georgianna’s hair as it peeled off my cheek.

“A loose strand of your hair might fall onto someone’s plate,” I told her.

She turned around and gasped. “Oh, sorry, Eugene. I didn’t see you, but can you blame me? Look at table four. He’s totally checking me out.”

I looked again, and he winked. Oh, my God.

Georgianna giggled. “See. He just winked.”

I averted my gaze quickly. Shit. He wasn’t winking at me. That was even more embarrassing!

“He’s not winking at you, Georgianna,” Loretta said.

Georgianna frowned. “Huh?”

Loretta pointed her finger at me. “His eyes have been on this awkward child ever since he walked in.”

I pushed her hand down. “No, he’s not.”

“Damn,” Georgianna muttered. “You’re right. He is looking at Eugene.” She slapped my arm. “You lucky bitch. Want me to get his number for you?”

“No! Please. I have to get back to work.”

“I hope he at least tips good,” Georgianna said.

My eyes bulged as Georgianna adjusted her boobs so that they nearly spilled over the edge of her V-neck shirt. Then, she sashayed toward table four.
