Making a sound in my throat, I said, “Oh, I forgot to mention. We’re going to your brother’s tomorrow.”

“We are?”

“Then Grandma will want you over on Christmas Day.” I stood before Genie did, adjusting my cock before she noticed, and headed for my room. I was unraveling. I couldn’t have a conversation alone with her without my body responding to her nearness.

“Say what?”

“She’ll kick me out if I leave you alone. You have no choice. You’re coming to my parents’ house with me.”

“Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve gone to a holiday dinner?” she asked.

Pausing at the door, I looked back and smiled. “Goodnight, Red.”

TWENTY-SIX

EUGENE

“Michael wasn’t supposed to be here,” my brother said for the sixth time since Hudson, and I arrived at the house.

Ignoring him, I stirred the mashed potatoes, adding another spoon full of butter. It was just me and my brother in the kitchen. Francis had carried a baked chicken out to the dining room.

“It was just supposed to be us today,” he added.

“I believe you. I’m fine.”

“No, you’re not. You’re helping Francis with the food.”

“Your point?”

“You don’t like to help in the kitchen, which means you’re staying in here to avoid him.”

“Not avoid.” I laughed. “If he leers at my chest one more time, I’m going to punch him in the face this time.”

“Is everything all right?” asked Michael in his slimy voice.

My lips curled in disgust. I had no idea how he was Francis’s brother. She was an angel compared to him.

I didn’t say anything. Scooping up the bowl, I started to walk by him.

Michael held his arm up and blocked my path. “Are you going to be like that forever over nothing?”

“Is thenothingyou speak of that time you grabbed my tits and tried to shove your tongue down my throat?”

“You were giving me signs to follow you when you stood up that night!”

“What?”

Unbelievable. How was getting up for the bathroom a sign to touch a person? As soon as my brother and Francis had gone to bed that night, I should have too. Silly me to think I’d be okay finishing the film with a member of the opposite sex.

“I had to pee.”

Edwin swore. “Michael. Just leave it alone. I hardly ever see my sister, and you’re always a douche when she’s here.”

I saw Hudson heading toward us. My face heated from embarrassment.

“I can’t stand her acting like I’m the problem!” Michael yelled. “She’s a bitch who thinks she’s someone special when she ain’t shit. She kicked me, remember? Have we forgotten about that?”

Hudson gripped Michael’s shoulder and turned him around. “Let’s go.”
