“Sleepsounds good.”Spencestretched and organized the pile of notes and paper before him. “Youready to slip out?”

“Goahead.I’llstay in case any questions come up.”

Spenceshook his head. “Nah,I’llwait.”Hewatched her eyes narrow in protest and rested his hand against her shoulder, lightly kneading her muscles. “Shouldn’tlast much longer.”

Kimpointed to the last item on the agenda—Signup for practice.“Don’tyou want to get a slot that works around your schedule?”

Heleaned closer to her ear. “Done.”Hemoved some of the papers and revealed the practice schedule. “Thecoaches had first picks at practice times.”

Kim’seyes danced mischievously. “Ofcourse—Ishould have realized that.”

KimandSpencestrolled the moonlit sidewalks.Kimyawned, leaning againstSpence'sshoulder as they approached her dorm.

“Longday,” he said.

“Toomuch sun,Ithink.Notused to sitting in theFloridasun all afternoon.”Kimtilted her head to look at him, a hint of a smile pulling at her lips. “Yourgame—so fun!”

“Gladwe won.”Hereached for the access card clipped toKim'sbackpack and held the door open for her.Shepaused to check her mailbox before summoning a burst of energy and jogging up the stairs.Thehall was hushed, andKimglanced at her watch in surprise.

“It'snot that late.Strangeto see all these doors closed.”

“Maybeeveryone's at a party?”Spencesuggested.

Kimshook her head. “OnaThursday?Whoknows?”Sheopened her apartment door and wavedSpenceinside before heading to the kitchen to pull two water bottles from the refrigerator.Whenshe turned around, she noticed he'd picked up an envelope from the pile of mail she'd dropped on the countertop.

Kimpaused, her heart sinking as she saw what he held before reaching to take it from him.Sheripped it open, eyes scanning the note before handing it over toSpencewith a sigh of frustration and anger. “Canyou believe this?DoeshereallythinkI'mgoing to accept his apology?”

Spenceexamined both the letter and envelope, carefully checking the postmark before tossing them back on the countertop.Hisarms wrapped aroundKim, and then he ran his hand over her hair. “Atleast it was mailed fromVancouver,” he said, pressing a kiss against her temple. “Whata dumb ass.”

Kimnodded in agreement and tucked her face into his chest.Stayaway fromTampa,Finn.

Themorning of the tournament,Kimawoke before dawn.Sheplanned to arrive at the site early to assist with any last-minute needs.Alight breeze and sunny sky greeted her as she exited her residence hall.Asshe made her way to the quad,Kimadmired the array of courts, tables, and the large white tent erected on the grass.Incrediblehow things came together so quickly.IhopeSpenceand the rest of the team feel pride in this amazing accomplishment.

Asoft breeze ruffled her hair, blowing it across her face.Anxiousto go to the site, she decided to air-dry her hair, and she gathered the unruly mass into a ponytail as she weaved through the throngs of students milling about.WhenSpencespotted her, his face beamed, and he welcomed her with a sweet kiss.

"Youlook gorgeous in our team shirt."Hepulled a team cap on her head.

Kimlaughed and smoothed her hands against his chest. "Turquoisesuits you, my captain.Ilike this choice."

“Don’tbe a spoilsport.Allthe bright colors across the field look like a kaleidoscope.Don’tyou agree it’s beautiful?”Sheaimed a teasing smile at him.

Herhand traced theFCUlogo and team name above an outline of a person hitting a volleyball near a net. “Theart department hit a home run.Youwear it well.”Kimpulled her ponytail through the back of the cap and adjusted the brim. “Thequad looks spectacular—I’min awe of everything!”

“Thebuy-in from all groups made this happen.”Spencenodded toward the large banner hanging across one side of the quadrangle. “TheSunsPRwent all in.Signs, a butt-load of prizes, and concession stand supplies.”

“Didyou notice the ‘FirstAnnual’ tacked onto all the tournament signs?”

Hechuckled. “Loveit—hope it means they’ll sponsor with us again next year.”

Shepatted his chest. “Theywill.Soproud of you for making this happen.”

Spencescoffed. “Ididn’t do anything.”

“Excepttake the idea to your coach, then theAD.Thisturned out to be a huge team-building activity for the campus.”
