Kimnodded, relieved thatTomunderstood her confusion, not hesitating to give her consent. “Youcan talk withDave.”

Tomstepped out of the room and returned shortly withSpencein tow.Assoon as she saw him,Kimfelt relief wash over her.Shereached for his hand, and he leaned forward and brushed his lips against hers.

“Hi, sweetheart,”Spencesaid. “Howare you feeling?”

“Betternow that you're here.I’mso sorry about earlier,”Kimreplied, tears stinging her eyes at the thought of having mistakenSpenceforFinn.

Hegrasped her hand and pulled a chair beside the bed. “Don’tapologize,Kim.”

“HowcouldImistake you for…?”Sheshook her head as she swallowed the sob that rose in her throat. “Pleasedon’t hate me.”

Spencecarefully sat on the bed beside her and leaned to hug her as best he could. “Don’tthink that way.Youhave a concussion.Everything’sokay.”Hegently kissed her forehead. “Noworries, babe.”

Sherested her hand on his forearm. “I’mso relieved you’re here.Didwe win the games?”

Asmile spread slowly across his face. “There’sa huge-ass trophy the guys dedicated to you.They’llpresent it to you when you come back to campus.”

Kimbeamed before asking, “Arethey excited?”

“Puttingit mildly,”Spencesaid with a laugh. “Butwe’ll celebrate when you can join us.”

Kimsqueezed his arm. “Youdid a fantastic job,Spence.Aren’tyou proud of the team, the committee, and everything about the tournament?”

Hisblue eyes sparked with happiness as he nodded. “Noneof this happens without you, babe.Icouldn’t have set up the brackets or organized it as you did.Weshould learn the total raised in a day or two.Beproud,Popcorn.”

Spencepulled a chair beside the bed whereKimwas propped up on pillows.Shehad just received her “dinner” ofJell-O, broth, and tea. “Looksdelicious,” he said with a wink.

“DefinitelyaMichelinstar.”Kimsipped on the tea, then set it aside while her nurse took her vital signs and added medication to theIV.

“Dr.Chadwicksaid that if you tolerate the liquids, we can add toast and rice.I’llvouch for theJell-O.”

“Ifyou say so.”

Spencesmiled at the doubtful expression onKim’sface.

Kimlooked at him when they were alone. “Areyou hungry?”

“Wouldn’tdream of depriving you of this feast.”Hesqueezed her hand asKimtook a tiny spoonful of the greenJell-O.

Lime?Kiwi?LemonLime?Shemet his eyes with a grimace. “Wouldyou like to share?”

Spenceshook his head. “Nah,I’llresist… for now.Butwhen you're released, we'll celebrate the tournament victory—with a meal of your choice.Thatsound better?”
