Reliefswept through her when she saw him.Shereached for him just asSpencepulled her against his chest and wrapped his arms around her.Heshut the door and pressed his lips against her forehead.

Spenceread the uncertainty in her face and saw her forehead creased with anxiety. “I’msorryIleft last night, babe.”

“What’shappened with the team?Iseverything okay?”

“Ihope so.It’sa long story—have you eaten?”Spencelightly ran his hands over her arms.Doesshe thinkIjust left because…Ididn’t want to stay?

Spencewrapped his arms around her. “Ihated leaving you,Kim.LastthingIwanted… but a real shit show for the team.”Hekissed her forehead. “Whydon’t we get breakfast—thenI’lltell you everything?”

Shenodded. “Soundsgood.Ineed to shower first.”

Spencetraced her lips. “Doyou mind ifIget takeout?Onlytake a few minutes.”Tohis relief,Kimlaughed.

Heleaned to kiss her. “Beright back.”

Tenminutes later, they sat at the table, sharing a breakfast buffet of their favorite sweet potato pancakes, egg burritos, and fresh muffins.Spencerecounted the previous night’s events, his voice reflecting his irritation over the three players’ conduct.

“What’sgoing to happen to the guys?”Kim’stone mirrored his dismay.

“Idon’t know.CoachDaviscalled me this morning—he said all three are staying off campus—basically on house arrest untilCoachRamirezcan meet with theADand possibly theDean.”Spence’slips quirked. “I’mnot sorry about that—right now,Idon’t want to seeWestie,Castie, or especiallyCarlson.He’sa freaking senior.WTF?”

Kimreached for his hand. “Theybetrayed you… and the team.I’mso sorry,Spence.”

Heleaned to kiss her. “I’mmost angry about having to leave you last night.”Hecupped her chin in his palm. “Adream come true for me… untilToddcalled.”

“Youdid what you had to.Itmust have killed you to call your coach.”

Spencechuckled without humor. “Wecouldn’t take the chance—they were stinking drunk.Hadto get them to theER.”

“Youdid the right thing.I’msureCoachRamirezappreciated your call.”Kimsaw him wince, then shake his head.

“Iguess we’ll find out the consequences soon.Teammeeting this afternoon.Don’tknow if those three will be there.”

Kimmoved the dishes to the counter, then nodded toward the bedroom. “Comewith me.I’llgive you a massage, help you relax.”Shesaw his eyes spark with pleasure.
