The blonde looks up, giving him serious fuck me eyes. “Well, I wouldn’t say that.”

Girls like her were a dime a dozen in the summer. With long hair and spray tans as fake as their boobs, they came to Cherry Cove for one thing—to land a rich guy. Of course, it never happened. Money bred money, and no matter who they managed to get into bed, they were always discarded just as quickly as the phone numbers they left behind.

Pulling his cup down, he leans in and whispers something in her ear. She smiles and arches her back, letting out a breathy laugh. I wonder if she knows she’s barking up the wrong tree right now. Not that I knew what Cruz’s friend had, money wise.He just wasn’t part of the old money crowd she’d come for.

“Have you seen the girl I came here with?” I ask anxiously. They can get back to their eye fuck fest when I’m gone. Right now, I just want to find Jenica and leave. “Dark hair, blue eyes…slightly taller than me.”

Blondie presses her lips together and looks at me with disdain. “No, so why don’t you leave?”

Was this bitch serious? “Excuse me?”

“You heard me. No one here has seen your friend so why don’t you make like a tree, and leave.”

I shake my head and laugh. “Too much air in that head of yours to come up with a response that isn’t from a movie?”

She turns and squares her shoulders, shooting me daggers. “What did you say?”

I cross my arms and straighten to give me some height. Miss Glamazon had a good four inches on me and I didn’t want her thinking she could push me around. “Did I stutter?”

“Okay,” Jake steps in, “why don’t we all just cool off, hmm?”

Blondie lifts her chin and pouts with the reprimand. “She started it.”

“Well,” he laughs, “I don’t know about that. But I’m finishing it.”

“Fine.” She looks over at me, and shrugs. “Let’s get out of here.”

Lifting his drink, he shoots what’s left of it, then sets the empty cup down on the counter.

“Tell you what…” He pushes her hair off one shoulder and stares into her eyes. “Why don’t you go outside, find us someplace quiet, and I’ll be right there?”

She places a hand on his chest and looks up, giving him a cat-like purr. “Promise?”

He drags a finger down her cheek and when he reaches her chin, tips it up and leans in, lips nearly brushing hers as hespeaks. “I’m right behind you.”

She licks her lips in eager anticipation, then turns, making her way out of the kitchen without so much as a look back.

“Wow,” I can’t help but laugh once she’s gone, “have fun with that one.”

“Oh, I plan to,” he grins.

“Yeah, I bet.”

“Not a fan?” He smiles, detecting my sarcasm.

“Nope. Don’t like fake boobs or people.”

“Well here’s the thing.” He makes his way over to me and leans against the counter. “I don’t care if she’s fake. I don’t plan to marry her. I just want to have a little fun.”

“Well then you’re wasting your time because that’sexactlywhat she wants. To go home with a diamond on her finger.”

“Says who?”

“Says all the girls like her who come here every summer, looking for a guy that will bed, then wed them.”

He tosses his head back and laughs. “Well she’s in for a surprise because no one is getting their hands on my first million but me. I’ve been waiting to go pro my whole life and have plans for that money once I do.”

“Oh yeah?” I cross my arms. “Such as?”
