“Lottie—”

“Tell me now, Nate. I want to hear you say it,” she pleads softly. “I want to hear you say how much you love me because I can’t live another second without telling you I’m madly in love with you.”

In two strides, I’m on her, cupping her beautiful face in my palms as the snow keeps falling on both of us.

“You love me, Lottie?” I ask gruffly, feeling like my heart can’t withstand such happiness.

“Yes.” She nods with a soft smile, her beautiful eyes fixed on mine. “Do you love me?”

“With my whole fucking heart,” I admit in a strangled breath, running my thumbs over her cold cheeks.

I kiss the tear that falls down her face as her smile broadens.

“Are you mine now, sweetheart?” I ask huskily, craving to hear her say it.

“Yes, with my whole fucking heart,” she repeats teasingly.

“Good. Because this is what’s going to happen. I’m going to kiss you now, Lottie. And after I’ve done that, I’m going to bring your bags inside, and from this moment on, that’s where they will remain. Understood?”

Her eyes become hooded as she licks her lips and nods.

“And afterward? What are you going to do then?” she asks, looking deep into my eyes.

“Then I’m going to love you. And that’s what I’ll do until the end of my days. Just…love you.”

And before she has time to say anything else, I crash my mouth to hers.

Chapter 37

Charlotte

With just one kiss, Nate is able to scare away the winter chill, bringing warmth back into my cold bones. I let myself get lost in his kiss, slinging my arms over his broad shoulders until I hug his neck. His tongue teases the seam of my lips, and I welcome it like I’ve welcomed him into my heart. Before long, our kiss morphs from something sweet and tender to depraved and wanton.

Because it’s not enough.

Not nearly enough.

We’ve lost so much time already that I can’t stand to wait another second.

“Nate.” I sigh into his mouth as his fingers pull my hair. “Take me to bed,” I beg.

His hazel eyes burn with desire as he reluctantly pulls his lips off mine.

“Do you have anything fragile in these suitcases?” he asks with a strangled breath.

I shake my head since it’s mostly only a few clothes I could grab from my apartment—no, from Cooper’s apartment—before I came to his doorstep.

With his penetrating gaze still locked on mine, he grabs my suitcases and tosses them through the door, picking me up in his arms as he walks me over the threshold like a newlywed bride.

“I’ve always wanted to do that.” He smiles shyly.

“With anyone in particular?” I ask, running the pads of my fingers over his square jaw.

“Only you. All my fantasies… are about you. All of them.”

And the truth of his words hanging in the air between us only makes me want him more.

“Bed, Nate. Take me to bed or take me right here.”
