My nails dig into his back as he keeps driving into me. I feel every inch of him inside me, possessing me while worshiping me at the same time. Suddenly, my body ceases to be mine, belonging only to him, responding to his every demand and craving.

“Nate,” I scream out when it all becomes too much.

“Let go, sweet Lottie. I’ll catch you. I promise,” he swears with a stifled moan.

With his promise to always protect and care for me, I let go of months of frustration and pent-up desire. A blinding light steals my vision as I willingly fling myself off the cliff, knowing he’ll be there to catch me.

I’m still flying high as Nate thrusts deep inside me two more times before he lets go and follows me over the precipice. My heart sings in elation as he falls on top of me, my arms and legs locking him in place, unwilling to ever let him go. Our joint hearts beat in tandem to the same joyous song as we try to catch our breath, still lost in the wonder of what just happened.

But all too soon, Nate lifts his head off my shoulder to look me in the eye, the ravenous animal in him still feral and hungry.

“Again,” he growls, desperate for me.

“Again.” I smile, knowing that I’ll be saying that word for the rest of my life.

“You fell asleep on me,” Nate coos, waking me up with butterfly kisses on my shoulder.

“Hmm, did I?” I purr, stretching on his bed like a lazy cat. “I wonder why that happened?”

“Didn’t mean to tire you out.” I feel him smiling in the crook of my neck, tightening his grip on my waist from behind.

“No?” I glance over my shoulder with an arched brow.

Since I stepped foot in this house, Nate has kept me prisoner in his bed, having his wicked way with me. I’ve come so many times in the last few hours that it’s a miracle I can still have a coherent conversation.

“Seemed like you knew exactly what you were doing,” I tease.

“Maybe a little.” He smiles shyly, knowing damn well I melt whenever he smiles at me like that.

“Well then, mission accomplished. You wore me out. Though the long night before didn’t help matters either,” I explain, softly nudging my head to his.

“I figured as much. Want to talk about it?”

“Do you?” I ask curiously.

“If it involves you, then yes. I want to know everything, Lottie.”

My heart warms at the sincerity of his words.

“Okay.” I nod as he releases his grip on me so I can turn around and face him.

Like this, with him just mere inches away from me, it’s very hard to focus on anything else but him. Still, there’s no way I can enjoy our peace if we don’t hash out everything that’s happened to us recently.

“Are you sure you want to have this talk here, in our bed, when you know it involves you-know-who?” I ask hesitantly.

Nate smiles widely, the little dimple I love so much on his left cheek emerging.

“Just hearing you call this bed ours makes whatever you’re about to say next easier to bear. He’s your past. And I’m—”

“My future,” I finish for him.

“Yes, sweetheart. I’m your present and your future. Whatever past we might have had, I promise I won’t ever let it affect us in any way.”

Comforted by his words, I gain the courage to tell him about the chaos that erupted last night.

I explain how Piper came all the way from Boston to Cape Cod in the middle of the night just to show me that godforsaken video. How Cooper—a man who had been refusing to take my calls before—was now blowing up my phone, wanting to talk things out.

“He said that I shouldn’t be upset with him because it was my fault that I drove him into another woman’s arms. He excused his actions by reminding me that we were on a break, which, in Cooper’s dictionary, apparently meant that he could have slept with half of the city and not be reprimanded for it.”
