“When I showed up at your doorstep this morning, and you said all those beautiful things to me, did you mean them? Do you really want me to move in with you? I wouldn’t be upset if you changed your mind. I mean, it’s a pretty big step to take since we’ve only started dating… well… officially today.”

“Come here, Lottie,” he orders, crooking his finger for me to come closer.

I drink the rest of my wine and then place the glass on the center table before walking towards him. When I’m within arm’s reach, he picks me up, and I straddle his lap as he wraps his arm around me to keep me exactly where he wants me.

“Does it feel like we’ve only loved each other for a day?” he asks, running his knuckles up and down my cheek.

“No.” I shake my head.

“That’s right, it doesn’t. You know why that is?”

“Because we were already in love. It just took us until now to be together.”

“Exactly. We have waited long enough, Lottie. And now that we have finally found each other, are we really going to let a silly thing like time dictate what makes us happy?”

I shake my head again.

“We are the ones making the decisions on how we want to live our lives. No one else,” he coos softly. “Do I make you happy, sweetheart?”

“Yes,” I whisper.

“Then that’s all that matters. The rest is window dressing.”

I melt into his chest and let him envelop me with his love.

“So, you’re not scared we’re going too fast?”

“No, sweetheart. As long as we’re together, nothing can scare me anymore.”

I smile into his chest, knowing he means every word.

“Are you tired? Do you want to go to bed?” he asks when I just stay in his arms, listening to his heartbeat.

“I’m wide awake,” I tell him truthfully. “I wouldn’t turn down another glass of wine, though.”

“Your wish is my command, sweetheart. Stay right here. I’ll get it for you.”

Nate presses a kiss on my temple and gently shifts me off his lap to grab the bottle of wine from the kitchen counter.

But as he pours the wine into a clean glass, I catch a glimpse of his kitchen clock.

“Is that the time already?” I frown when I see it’s almost midnight. “I didn’t realize it was so late. I guess we’ll miss the New Year’s fireworks.” I frown.

“We don’t have to,” he says, walking back to me with the wine glass in his hand.

“What do you mean?”

“How about I show you instead.” Nate grins, holding out his hand for me to take.

I place my hand into his as he pulls me off the couch, interlocking his fingers with mine while handing me my drink.

“Where are we going?” I ask excitedly as he leads me up the stairs.

“You’ll see.”

When we pass by our bedroom, I frown since a part of me thought that maybe he’d show me a different kind of fireworks.

“Where are we going?” I ask when I realize we’re heading towards the roof.
