“My mom is named Shelby, asshole.” I give him a scathing look.

“You didn’t let me finish,” he quickly backpaddles. “Shelby is a beautiful name. She just looked more like a Rita to me.”

“You’re an idiot.” I shake my head. “Now, where is that precious car of yours?”

“Just a little bit further,” he says, sounding more alert.

My forehead creases at the sudden change in his tone, but before I can piece two and two together, it’s already too late.

“I’ll take it from here, Donovan,” Trent says, stepping out of the dark alleyway behind Roy’s.

“Sorry, babe,” Caleb has the audacity to mutter before pulling his arm off me.

“You better run, Caleb Donovan. Run very far away if you know what’s good for you,” I growl through clenched teeth, realizing his drunken stupor was all a show to lead me into a trap.

“Then I guess that’s my cue. See you lovebirds later.” Caleb taps his forehead in salute, then struts back to the bar, no longer looking even a tad inebriated.

I’m going to kill him!

He fucking played me.

They both did.

“If you wanted to talk to me, you could have done it inside the bar where it’s warm, you know?”

“Is that an invitation for me to warm you up?” Trent smirks.

“Don’t try to be cute. Just say what you want to say so I can go back inside?”

“Are you scared that your new toy will lose interest that quickly?”

“Toy?” I laugh. “You’re the one who likes to play games, Nichols. Not me.”

“Trent.”

“Huh?”

“I said, Trent. Nichols is when we’re doing business. And as you can see, business is the last thing I have in my mind right now.”

“Is that so? And what, pray tell, do you have in mind?”

His black eyes darken suggestively, and before I can even anticipate his next move, he grabs my hand and leads me deeper into the dimly lit alley, taking us completely out of sight from anyone strolling along the sidewalk.

“Let me just say that you dragging me into a dark alley is setting off all kinds of red flags,Trent.“

“Are you scared?” he says, coming to a halt after successfully positioning my back against a brick wall.

“Of you? Never.”

“Then I don’t see a problem.”

“You don’t?” I laugh sarcastically. “So the fact that you pulled me out of the party under false pretenses so we could have this chit-chat in a dark alleyway doesn’t seem problematic to you in any way?”

“Who said anything about talking?”

I swallow dryly, seeing the intent in his eyes.

“What do you want, Trent?” I ask gruffly when he presses his chest against mine.
