She flashes me a smile. "That I am. It's a packed crowd out there, which means loads of money for us."

Here's hoping. I'd like to pay Jed more money this week. I've had a good week. Not to mention, with Ruairi chipping in, I've been able to save a lot more to put away. I'm hoping this debt will go down and I won't have to worry about him and his sleazy threats. There's nothing worse than listening to him threaten to rape me if I don't pay up.

I make my way around the floor. Punters are flashing their cash, getting all the girls' attention. Tamara wasn't wrong, it is a packed crowd, and they're all eager to spend their money. Most of them want lap dances. That's something that's easy to do and I get a decent amount of tips for. Obviously my dance on the pole brings in the most money.

"Christ," Lorna says under her breath as we take a quick breather. Lorna started working here last week and I love her already. She's sweet but she's not a pushover. She's fun and someone that Tamara, Kelsie, and I can hang out with. "Why is it so busy?"

I shake my head. "I've no idea. It's beyond crazy tonight." I'm drained. I can feel it in my bones. I don't have much energy left, and I don't want to risk having another sip of water. If I do, I know I'm going to throw up, and that's just going to cause even more exhaustion, something I can't afford right now. I need to make it through the night and then I can collapse once I'm home and in bed.

"But the tips are great." She grins. "Where's Kelsie?" she asks. "I haven’t seen her at all this week. Does she still work here?"

"You know Kelsie?" I question, surprised as Kelsie is in the middle of her exams and has taken the past month off. She'll be back next week, and she's excited as she'll be able to start saving for a home.

"She's my sister's friend. It's how I got the job."

Ah, she must be Dara's sister. I've heard a lot about Dara. "Ah, okay. Yeah, she still works here. She should be back next week."

She gives me a brighter grin than before. "Okay, cool." We hear a loud cheer, and Lorna's eyes widen. "We'd better get back out there. No doubt they'll start to riot if not."

I laugh. She's right, there aren’t enough girls working the floor tonight to deal with the amount of people wanting lap dances. I watch as she leaves and take just a few more moments to catch my breath and try to stop the exhaustion from setting in even more.

My legs are wobbly as I move back onto the floor.

"Yo, Al, you're up on stage next. Are you ready?" Tamara calls out, and I smile.

I'm ready. Just two more dances and a few more hours. I'm almost at the end. Not much longer to go.

A few minutes later, the music begins and my body starts to sway. It doesn't take long until I'm fully into the dance. As always, I flash a smile every so often as my gaze moves across the crowd that's watching. It always helps to make them feel as though I'm giving them that secret smile, which improves my tips.

The dance is close to the end when I feel that wave of heat hit me. I will the nausea to not come, but before I can do anything, my legs start to tremble even more, my eyes blur, and my mind goes blank. I hear someone calling my name as I hit the floor, no longer having the strength to hold my body up. Just as I hit the floor, the darkness pulls me under, and the last thing I remember is praying that my baby is okay.

CHAPTER16

PREACHER

Isit up in bed at the sound of the door banging against the wall. My eyes try to adjust to the bright light. "The fuck?" I growl, as I turn to the sound of the noise.

"The fuck is right," Pyro snarls. "Thought we agreed, brother?"

My head is pounding. It's like a continuous thumping against my temple. I wince as the loudness of his voice does nothing to ease the pain.

"What'cha talkin' about?" I say, my words slurred.

He stalks toward the bed. "This," he hisses as he grabs the bottle of whiskey. "Thought we had a deal?"

"We did," I snap, pissed that he's all up in my face. "That deal ended. What's it got to do with you?"

His lip curls in disgust. "You know, Preach, I had a fuckin' lot of respect for you. You're my brother, and you've more than earned it. But there are times when I do wonder about you. The shit you've been through, it changes a man. I wasn't sure how you'd deal with not havin' Tyson, but, brother, you showed everyone just how fuckin' tough you are. It would have brought most men to their knees. Not you. It turned you to drink. That's understandable. I finally thought you'd come out the other end and then you do this."

He's right. I turned to alcohol to numb the pain. The pain that could easily bring me to my knees and on occasion has almost done just that. But he doesn't get to judge me. Fuck no. I've done what the fuck I've needed to do in order to stay sane. Fuck him.

"You don't want to go there, Py. You really don't want to fuckin' go there with me."

"Yeah? You think you're hurtin' and that you're the only one that's doin' so? This bullshit that you're pushin' on that innocent girl, that you’re not good enough for her? The one that was just fun for you?"

I push up off the bed, my legs uneasy. I'm still a little drunk from last night. "Don't fuckin' talk about her."

He shakes his head. "Nah, brother, that's exactly what we're goin' to fuckin' talk about. You see, that girl, that fuckin' sweet and innocent girl, doesn't deserve your bullshit."
