Fuck.

I stood there for another beat, trying to pretend my dick didn’t just perk up with both ears, my skin tingling with lust.

No-no-no-no-no! I yelled in my head, drowning out any other response. You’re horny. Take it out on a stranger, not her. Most of all, not her.

All I could offer was meaningless sex; I had nothing else left. My life was only to avenge Kek and Lucas. I would not let myself think about the fact I could only orgasm the other night because I imagined her. A brain glitch when I was high.

A noise worked up my throat, my fingers scouring my temple. I needed a drink… and just a little dust to calm me down, my magic tapping at every nerve, turning my mind into a swamp of lust.

Following Scarlet in, the heat of the low-ceiling packed room burned at my cold skin. The setup was similar to the one we stayed in at Sebe?, with gambling and music on one side, the bar and tables on the other.

A beautiful, dark-haired fae man strolled up, his features so delicate he could be mistaken for a woman. He highlighted his face with a lot of makeup and fake jewels around his eyes, a bright silk robe, and slippers.

“Welcome, my loves, to my casa. I’m the procurer here, Maestro Silk.” He spoke good English, his arms swinging flamboyantly. His gaze took in both of us. “Well, aren’t you two thegorgeouspair? My goodness…Hell-o!” His eyes ignited with interest, but it felt harmless. “Dirty and in need of a bath, but some of us like that, right?” He elbowed me with a wink. “And you!” He went to Scarlet, cupping her face. “Look at those cheekbones, lips, and eyes. People would die for those, including me. Oh, I’m so envious. You are stunning.” He tilted her face, peering at her longer. “You remind me of someone. Who is it… Why can’t I remember?” he berated himself.

“Do you have a room available?” Scarlet stepped from his grasp.

“Draga.” Sweetheart. His voice went low, like he was spilling a secret. “We have many availabilities. It’s all what you want. An hour, a night, a room with extra toys, a room with equipment, apartyroom.” He winked at her, biting his lips when his gaze stopped on me, making a playful growl sound at me. “Whateveryou want.”

“Just a room for her,” I spoke. “Nothing else.”

“Gotcha.” He pointed at me. “Not the sharing type. That’s fine. We welcome all here.”

A laugh wedged in my ribs, wanting to bust out in hysterics at the statement. Me? Not the sharing type?

Kek and Lucas might have been the only real “relationship” I was in with two people, but my entire sex life, even now thinking about my childhood, had been “sharing.” I never imagined having just one person, not for a tree fairy. Our sex demand was way too high, and I got bored easily.

About to correct him, something kept my mouth shut, okay with him thinking Scarlet was off the table for anyone else.

“Why don’t you have a seat at the bar, get something to eat, and I will go shuffle things around to get you a room.” Maestro dramatically waved his arms toward the bar, new customers already pulling his attention to the door.

“Why do I have a feeling we’re gonna be waiting for a room for a while?” She watched him flutter around the new people entering, probably already forgetting about us.

“Then we drink here until we pass out on the sofa over there.” My hand went to her lower back, moving her to the bar. The simple touch, even through layers of clothing, shot a zing up my arm.

“Ugh, can you imagine what is on that sofa?” She shivered, climbing on a stool. “The amount of bodily fluid?”

“You think the bed we slept in the other night was any better?” I straddled the one next to her, our eyes catching in the low light, my humor dropping away at the slight blush on her cheeks, knowing what she was thinking about. Because my cock didn’t forget, reminding me every moment of the heat and wetness it sought like a missile and was blocked from.

Breaking the contact, I cleared my throat, calling over the bartender. “Whiskey for me.”

“Same.” Scarlet nodded in agreement.

The fae woman nodded, her boobs spilling out of her bodice as she poured our drinks from a brandless bottle and slid them over to us.

“Oh gods.” Scarlet eyes watered at the potent smell. “This is whiskey?”

“Probably made in the back there.” I picked up my glass, aware this was a bad idea, yet still not stopping.“Noroc!” Cheers. I tapped my glass into hers, downing a huge swig.

A backdraft of flames scorched up my throat, forcing a loud huff from my lips.

Scarlet started hacking next to me, tears running down her face as she rubbed her chest. “Fuck,” she sputtered, tapping at her chest. “That’s pure alcohol.”

Her swearing always pulled my focus. She was so elegant and prim, but at the same time, it fit her. Fit the rawness I could see in her. This darkness.

The homebrew went instantly to my head, and I was already making stupid choices as I asked the bartender for another round.

“What’s on the menu?” I asked when the woman placed more drinks in front of us.
