“That’s a big decision to make,” Addison carefully says.“Aren’t you going to let him explain, at the very least?”

“Explain?”I croak, staring at her with horror.“He lied to my face.He looked me in the eye and he fucking lied. Then, he was sneaking around to see her.You want me to just get over that?To wait while he decides who he wants?”

Addison shakes her head.“I didn’t mean ...”

“What Addison meant,” Serenity cuts in, “is that you might just need to give yourself time to settle down and think.”

“It’s done, Serenity.Done.Finished.We’re over.”

“Jani—”

“I need to sleep,” I cut her off, pushing to my feet even though my knees wobble.“Can you let me?”

The three girls glance at each other then nod, and one by one, they leave until I’m standing, alone in a room, a pain in my heart that I’m not certain I can live with, or that I’ll ever get over.An angry sob leaves my throat as I collapse to my knees, clutching my chest and letting out a shrill wail.It hurts, it hurts so fucking bad.Mostly, because of the fact that he’s confused.

Confused.

If you asked me, I would tell you not a single thing in this world could make me choose anyone but Muff.

If you asked him, he would say he’s confused.

Who is this woman?

And just how much did she mean to him?

OVER AND OVER, HE CALLS.

I continue to ignore him.

He isn’t ready to give up, though, and I know he won’t, not until he hears my voice and has a chance to plead with me to listen.Listen to what?Him try to explain away that he’s a fucking liar.

I don’t think so.

The phone rings again, and this time, I pick it up angrily because I’ve had just about enough. My voice is like a whip when I answer it, and I want him to hear just how hurt and angry I am right now.

“If you don’t stop calling me, I’ll block you, Brian.”

“I won’t stop callin’,” he grinds out, his voice gruff, “until you hear me out.”

“Hear you out?”I snort.“You think your story matters to me?It doesn’t.I don’t care what happened, I care about the fact that you never told me, that you lied to me, and that you don’t know what you want. After everything we’ve created together, you just don’t know what you want.Go fuck yourself, Brian.”

“It’ll matter to you if you fuckin’ hear me out,” he barks, and I hear something break on the other end.

“Yell at me once more, Brian.Go on, see how it ends.”

A pause.

“Just let me speak to you.Can you at least give me that?Ten minutes, it’s all I’m asking.”

Do I want to hear what he has to say?Can I handle it?Part of me wants to scream and tell him to go to hell, but the other part wants to hear what it is he has to say.“Ten minutes, and then you’re going to leave me alone.”

“Fine.”

Fine.

Hanging up, I walk over to the mini bar and take out a bottle of vodka, it’s one of those tiny ones.
