For such quiet words, they sure pack one hell of a punch.

“What do you want this to mean?” I could have played dumb and brushed her off but I’m too old for such juvenile games. Especially with her, when she means so damn much to me.

Pushing off my chest, she sits up and pulls the blanket around her shoulders. Covering the incredible view should be illegal.

“If I told you forever, would it scare you?” She won’t meet my eyes as she speaks, so I sit up and move her off my lap to sit in front of me.

“You don’t think I’m too old for you?” There’s a decade and a half separating us and while I know exactly what I want, that doesn’t mean she does.

Her look is dissecting as she tries to decipher what I’m feeling before answering and I know my face gives nothing away. “I never gave our ages a thought before. But am I too young for you?”

“You want my honest answer, Oaklynn?”

Her bottom lip quivers as she forces her eyes to meet mine. “No.”
