“Cart after horse, Mama. She’d already cut and run.”

“I meant did you want to get her back.”

“Hell no.”

From the kitchen, beeping sounded, the oven announcing the food was ready. Time had flown while we were hidden away in here.

Climbing up, I swatted Mia’s ass. “That’s dinner. Let’s go eat. We’ll need refuelling for the evening I have planned.”

Adorably flustered, she sat up, pink on her cheeks and down her throat to her bare tits. While I dragged on my boxers, she shook out her hair then ran her fingers through it, twisting it into a fast braid.

“Could you grab my dressing gown? It’s on the back of the door.”

Hunger swept over me that had nothing to do with the meal I’d made. With a low growl, I crowded her, stealing another kiss. “How about ye sit at the table naked?”

“You’ll spill more food than you plate up.”

She grinned, and my mouth curved to match, her happiness infectious. Also, she had a point.

The dressing gown wasn’t where she said, so I picked up my t-shirt. “Wear this?”

“If you like.” She let me tug it over her head.

“I do. It doesn’t hide ye from me but is enough to keep my dick under control. I can’t promise for how long, though.”

Mia laughed, leading me out of the room. My shirt drowned her in length but clung to her curves, her ass a thing of beautywhere it moved under the thin material. I groaned, reaching for her hand.

“Nope. I made a mistake. Ye look too hot in that. The food can burn.”

She darted away, making a break into the kitchen. Huffing pretend annoyance, I paced after her.

Under the bright spotlights, she waited on me. “What can I do?”

“Suck me off.”

“I meant with the meal.”

“Fuck the meal. Sit on my lap.”

“Valentine! I’m hungry.”

“So am I, little spy.” But her need for food beat down every other priority.

After washing up, I took the beef from the oven, the top nicely charred but a cut inside showing me it was perfectly done. “I didn’t have time to make sides, so how about rolls with pickles and sour cream?”

“I’m drooling already.”

At my side, Mia made up the rolls while I carved the beef. Then we sat at the table and devoured the food. This was all so easy, being around her. If I had a wish, it would be to keep everything exactly as it was now.

The notion broke down a wall I’d constructed. My little spy, peeking through at my dark interior.

After dinner, we returned to bed, cuddling up like it was the most natural thing in the world. My happy state simmered, words needing to go out into the world. But my long-held practice of not talking about that kind of shite kept my mouth closed.

“Talk to me about something,” I asked instead. “Anything. I just want to listen to ye for a while.”

Mia lifted her head from my chest. Her gaze was troubled, an indent in her furrowed brow. “Weird. I was just about to speak.”

“What about?”
