I squinted, hunting for tour merch or items clutched in hands that fans might want signed, any indication that this was for Leo. We didn’t publicise where he stayed, but there were a number of methods for that to leak. If they were here for him, it could make leaving the hotel riskier.

The woman at the reception desk looked up at my approach. “How may I help you?”

“They been out there long?”

She peered over thin glasses. “I noticed a few people half an hour ago.”

Which meant the crowd had grown quickly.

“How many people are on security tonight?”

“One, our doorman.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

She blanched. “Usually the general manager’s here in the evening, but the city’s quiet. He’s left already. There won’t be any trouble. It’s never happened here, and we frequently host politicians.”

Fucking politicians. I turned away. I was off duty, if that was ever a thing, but tapped an alert out to the team. Leo was meant to be heading out for dinner, but that plan wouldn’t fly if he couldn’t leave the place safely.

My phone dinged, two messages arriving at once.

Ben: On my way down.

Mia: I signed up to a dating site. I’m filling out the profile.

Well, fuck. I scowled at the second text, leaning back on a cold stone wall to reply.

Valentine: Is that safe?

Mia: I’m using a fake name and not showing my whole face in the pictures I just took. The Winchester men would never stoop to using a dating site, so I think so.

I still didn’t like it.

Another reply came in.

Mia: Have you ever tried this?

Valentine: Why would I?

Mia: Right. Because you don’t want a girlfriend. I’ll call Daisy to come help me.

Valentine: I can still help. Show me the pictures you’re using.

Two appeared. The first of her smiling in profile, the second more focused on her body. Neither were clearly her, but still I gritted my teeth.

Then I checked myself.

Mia wanted a boyfriend. Who the hell was I to stand in her way?

Valentine: Open two more buttons on your shirt.

Mia: Like so?

She sent a third pic, her delightful tits now the star of the show. A rush of heat eased through my body, chasing the adrenaline from seeing the pack outside. Even while chatting, I didn’t take my attention off the danger for long. The high-end hotel’s doorman was keeping them at bay, but the lack of any other personnel wasn’t my favourite news in the world.

Valentine: Fucking hell, woman. Guys will be lining up to take you out.

Mia: That’s the idea.
