Lukemeant Leo. We didn’t use his or his family’s names publicly, everyone getting a code name using their initial. Finn’s was Fletcher and even baby Torran had one. We called him Tank.

“Interesting that we were able to walk in untroubled but a crowd appears right before Luke’s meant to leave,” I said.

We swapped a glance.

“The record company’s courting this,” Ben decided. “They attempted multiple times to get him to agree to a meet and greet, but of course, he said no.”

“Then they leaked his location instead to appease the angry fans. Fuck. Are the family secure?” If Finn knew what was going on, he’d be terrified.

“They’re remaining upstairs. Gordain’s in the suite. Raph and Jax are taking positions outside the door. Right now, our best bet is to sit tight. Maybe move hotels later.”

A prickle of uncertainty rolled over my skin. I slid my gaze to the crowd outside the glass. They’d closed in even more, a couple stumbling over the potted trees to haunt the entrance approach.

“We need a better plan.” I turned to the receptionist. “Is there any other way out than this exit and the delivery square?”

She snapped up her attention from her phone. “Sorry, what?”

I narrowed my gaze. “Are ye messaging someone?”

“Only my boyfriend. This is wild.”

Ben breathed through his nose. “Do your job and call the police. That crowd isn’t going anywhere, and it could get dangerous.”

He was right. In the space of the few minutes we’d been monitoring it, the noise level outside had elevated, the crowd getting raucous. Their yells demanded Leo appear.

If they raided the place, the family could only hide in bedrooms with doors that were thick but not designed to hold back a siege. My team would do anything to keep them safe, but facing down what had to now be over a hundred people would be risky as fuck. Horrifyingly scary for the family concealed the other side of the door.

My brother pointed at me. “I’m calling it?—”

A crack ricocheted through the reception, echoing across the polished surfaces.

One of the windows splintered, the glass holding but a silver jagged line bisecting one of the huge panels.

My heart thundered.

The receptionist shot to her feet, her mouth gaping open.

“Get the police here,” Ben snarled. “And answer the question. Is there another way out?”

Despite the distance between us, I knew my brother. Like me, he could pivot a plan on the spot, balancing out the tipping point to move from one path to another.

The receptionist picked up the phone, her hand shaking. “No.”

“What about that bridge across the street?” I demanded.

She blinked. “Oh, yes. But it’s locked. We aren’t using it.”

“What is the building it connects to?” I urged.

“It’s our overflow rooms, used when we’re sold out, but we only open it May through September.”

The perfect place to hide.

“Who can unlock it?” I asked.

“The general manager has the key. Hola?” She spoke into the phone, her tone fearful in her rapid explanation to the police.

Ben and I took off running.
