“Three days’ time in the meadow just beyond the woods where the moon touches the hill. 10:00 a.m. Then, we will decide how to proceed and if your information was worth this meet-up. If so, you will be rewarded. If not …"

“Thank you, Florence.” Mason stood and grabbed her hand in appreciation. “I trust that no word of this is to get out to anyone, even your mother. And if you’re thinking of changing your loyalty back to the other side, just remember, he would kill you on the spot for the simple lie you told before he’d trust you again.” He smiled as he said it, but it made it all the more threatening.

Again, Florence nodded, saying she would never betray Mason again. Her proclamations followed them to the door as they left the misguided woman to tend to her mother.

It had started to drizzle. Ash popped her collar up as she and Mason strolled through the alley, leaving the row of homes.

“So, we’re all set then?” she asked as they trudged back to her cabin.

“We are. We just need to pick a few trustworthy members of the pack who have been with me when these attacks have taken place. Get our team together and attack at the meet. He picked a perfect battlefield. I know where the location is.”

Ash bit her lip with a nod. “So, now we wait?”

“Now we wait.”

“Want to wait with me?” she asked seductively. She couldn’t help herself, even with the seriousness of the upcoming days.

He didn’t turn to her, but his smile grew, and his pace quickened. “Oh, hell yeah.”

Once at her humble abode,Ash left Mason on the couch to scroll for a movie as she changed into comfier clothes. She knew he thought she was going to be slipping into something sexy. She chuckled to herself as she pulled on her sweatpants and discarded her bra for an oversized T-shirt.

She walked out of her bedroom and caught his sharp blue eyes instantly falling on her. She was surprised at his reaction.

Instead of looking disappointed, he looked mischievous and eager. She felt hungry suddenly, but not for food. Her blood pumped faster, and her inner wolf wanted to rip his clothes to pieces. Instead, she played it off and plopped herself close to him on the couch. She was certain that he could smell her lust and hear her heart, though. That, she couldn’t hide.

“Have you found anything yet?”

He was still looking at her, his eyes now on her erect nipples visible through her thin shirt.

“What?” His eyes went back to hers, a shit-eating grin on his face. Ash chucked a throw pillow at him.

“You heard me.” She laughed. “You’re such a dog.”

“Well, so are you, if I’m not mistaken.” He stood and grabbed a bottle of wine he must have found when she was changing. “Thirsty?”

“Obviously.”

He smirked as he poured them each a glass and sat back down, handing her hers.

She sipped her wine as she took over looking for a movie.

“What are you feeling like? Something kick-ass to keep us amped up or …” Ash looked over to see what Mason was thinking, only to find him still looking at her, now with concern and deep thought. Her gut clenched automatically. To her, that look screamed,We need to talk.

She set the remote down, took a sip to collect herself, and turned fully toward Mason, tucking her knee under her butt.

“What are you worried about? Did we miss something in the plan?”

He shook his head and narrowed his eyes. “I need you to promise me something.”

Oh, God.

“Promise me that whatever happens, we face it together.”

“What do you mean?”

“I know you are used to doing things on your own. But that was before. You and I are a team, and I make it a point with my pack, and now you, to be completely transparent in all things. I want you to count on me and not hide things. Or get too proud to include me. And ask for help when you need it. So, Ash. Can you promise me that we will be doing this together? For me. For us.”
