INCANDESCENT

REBEL MOXIE

Incandescentis a short insta-lust night between a dragonwho gave up hope on finding his mate, and a depressed but somewhat rational human woman who really just wanted a moment of quiet.

This story has a happy-for-now ending—no cliffhanger—with both characters readily accepting they are in fact predestined to be together for forever.

Content to be mindful of: Thoughts of and brought about by anxiety and depression—along with a bit of anxiety spiraling. Graphic sex between a non-human and a human, both consenting.

I've found you

There isan emptiness inside of me. A fundamental piece missing. After so much time, I’ve given up on finding what was lost. Centuries have passed, and I have succumbed to a stagnant, solitary existence.

My eyes land on a faint, warm glow in the distance, and a rush of heat tears through me, causing my body to rise on instinct, ascending into the darkness above, careening towards?—

I’ve found you…my flame

Well, that's that then

The lightof the fuel gauge flashes and I know I’ll be running on fumes, now literally. I don’t remember getting into the driver's seat. I don’t remember starting the car, and backing out of the driveway. I didn’t have a destination in mind, only the overwhelming desire toescape. Escape the constant noise in my head, all around me, everywhere. Something inside of me cracked. The debilitating limbo I’ve been living in finally snapped the last thread holding me together.

The car sputters, and I numbly pull over to the shoulder of the road. Idling, I wait, listening to the brief surges of the engine before it just stops and the entire car turns off. Everything goes dark. I turn the key and remove it from the ignition.

“Well, that’s that then,” I mumble.

I tilt my head back against the headrest and close my eyes, letting out an oddly contented sigh.Alone, with the moon high in the sky and a heavy stillness in the air, I feel like I can finallybreathe.

A breeze dances across my skin, and I turn my face towards the open window. Opening my eyes, I stare up at the moon, letting my thoughts drift away into the darkness. Ignoring the reality of my current situation–stranded in the middle of nowhere–I continue to gaze up into the night sky, the cacophony in my head sputtering out much like the engine did just moments ago.

When I am surrounded by people, I feel utterly alone, and yet out here, where there is nothing but land and sky, I feel the opposite.
