“The playboy out until dawn type.”

He grins widely, and fucking hell, that thing should be illegal.

I hope to God I’m a good person. But even so, I have a funny feeling I’d do some questionable shit to make him smile like that at me more often.

“I’m far from a playboy. I’m a workaholic. You’re more likely to find me at the office than in a bar. As for partying till dawn? I can think of far more pleasurable things to keep me up all night,” he tells me as his eyes move over my body, his implication clear.

I cough to clear my throat.

“But having you in my bed right now, even if it’s just to hold you, sounds pretty fucking good to me.”

I think about going back to my empty house and feel fear claw at my throat.

“Okay, just sleeping, though.”

“Scouts’ honor.”

“You were a boy scout?” I ask skeptically as he pulls away, grabbing my hand and leading me out of the room.

He looks over his shoulder at me. “Let’s just say I’m really good at tying knots. That has to count for something, right?”

I swallow but don’t reply, figuring that keeping my mouth closed is safer.

His strides are long, and I have to hurry to keep up with him. I don’t get much time to take anything in before I find myself in a large bedroom with a wall of windows overlooking the ocean. There is a chair facing the windows making it the perfect spaceto curl up with a book. The glow from the full moon provides enough light for me to make out the massive bed against the wall and the dresser opposite it with a huge television above it, the sheer size of which would have me questioning if he were overcompensating for something if I hadn’t already felt the size of what he’s concealing in his pants.

Walking past the bed to the windows, I can’t keep the awe from my expression or voice. “Wow. The view is even better from up here.”

“It’s fucking spectacular,” he agrees, but when I turn, he’s not looking at anything but me.

I flush, his words making those pesky butterflies in my belly take flight again.

“You want to borrow something to sleep in?”

I nod and watch as he walks over to the long dresser and grabs me a T-shirt. My eyes drop to his ass before I hastily look away so he doesn’t catch me ogling him.

He turns and walks back over to me, T-shirt in hand. “Need some help?”

I shake my head. “I got it.”

“Pity. I’m going to hop in the shower real quick. Take whatever side of the bed you want. I’m not picky.”

Taking off his jacket before he toes off his shoes, he turns and starts stripping as he heads toward the bathroom.

I stay where I am, watching the show, wondering what it would feel like to have his skin pressed against mine as he…

Feeling my body start to tingle, I slam my eyes shut and take a deep breath, embarrassed that I have such a reaction to him. Nobody should have this much power over someone else’s libido.

Valen is a walking, talking aphrodisiac. If he has this effect on me now, I can only imagine how potent his effect on me would be when he’s fully naked.

I whirl around and face away from him, refusing to become a brainless sex zombie for the man. I might not remember who I am, but I know that if I don’t fight the power he has over me, I’ll be naked and under him in a heartbeat.

When I hear the shower, I sigh in relief, moving to the edge of the bed. I get undressed as quickly as I can. I consider leaving my bra on, but I can’t bear the thought of sleeping in it. I reluctantly take it off, leaving me standing in just my panties. I unfold the T-shirt he handed me. It’s soft and faded like it’s been worn a hundred times before. I slide it over my head and know I’ll be stealing it from him. There is a worn logo on the front, but I don’t pay much attention to it. It’s not like it would mean anything to me anyway.

I take my clothes and lay them on the chair in the corner before hurrying back to the bed. I climb in on the left side, yank the covers up under my chin, and wonder why he told me to take whichever side I want. Did he realize I wouldn’t remember which I preferred, or have I never slept in bed with him before?

I close my eyes and feign sleep when I hear the shower shut off. Moments later, the door opens, and footsteps head toward the bed. Trying to keep my body relaxed, I just about manage it when he pulls back the covers and climbs in.

Once he’s comfortable, he reaches for me and rolls me over, yanking me into his arms. “You don’t need to pretend you’re asleep. I already told you nothing is going to happen until you’re ready.”
