I open my mouth to ask him when another thought occurs to me. “If all the victims were residents or worked at Briarwood House, then why me?”

He reaches up, his thumb skating over my lips. “I think you were getting too close.”

He leans forward and kisses me, his hands moving to my hair as he holds me in place. I squirm against him, feeling needy as fuck, but I know if I give in, I won’t hear the rest.

I pull back, making him growl.

“But how did I even make it onto his radar? Surely, I don’t fit his criteria. I have no connection to Briarwood House, right?” I ask because I have no idea if that’s true or not.

He shakes his head. “No, you were never a resident, but from what you told me, you had been there before on more than one occasion.”

“What on earth for?”

He frowns before he curses softly. “To visit your sister.”

Chapter Nineteen

Valen

“My sister? Holy shit. Nathan told me I had a sister who died, but I never asked for the details.”

“Let’s eat before we continue this conversation. Want me to cook or order in?”

“You cook?” she asks as I lift her off my lap and stand up.

“A little. I don’t always have the time, though.” I take her hand and lead her into the kitchen. I feel her eyes on me, so I look back down at her.

“You’ve had a busy week. Let’s just order in and watch a movie or something.”

“Sounds good to me. What are you in the mood for?”

“Surprise me.”

I press a kiss on her lips before opening the kitchen drawer and pulling out the takeout menus. I decide on Chinese and order all our favorites before making my way to the fridge, grabbing a beer and a Dr. Pepper.

Her eyes light up when she sees it, making me chuckle.

“You and your soda.”

She tilts her head. “What else do I like?”

“Big ass dogs, action movies with little to no plot. Churros with extra sugar and cinnamon. You love reading and hate the news—you say it’s too depressing. Your favorite season is fall because you love the changing colors, but winter is a close second because you also love the snow. You don’t drink alcohol but don’t need it to relax and have fun, and you hate fish with a fiery passion.”

I walk back over to her, her eyes wide and glassy, her breathing rapid as she licks her lips in shock. I grab her hips and pull her to me so she can feel how hard I am.

“You like my mouth on your pussy, but you especially like it when you can suck my cock while I’m eating you out. You’re possessive as fuck. You don’t like other women looking at me, and you’d never allow someone else in our bed, which is good because I’ll kill a motherfucker before I let anyone else put their hands on you.” I dip my head and skim my lips across her cheek.

“But you like the thought of being caught, of someone watching me fuck you without you realizing it. So we’ve fucked in some interesting places. The beach, a private club, my condo balcony, an elevator, the back of a movie theater.”

She gasps as she makes the connection.

I wrap her hair around my hand and pull her head back. “That’s ours. Don’t ever take Hask or anyone else there ever again.”

I don’t give her a chance to say anything. Instead, I slam my mouth down over hers and kiss her hard. Her hands grip my shirt as she holds on for dear life while I fuck her mouth with my tongue like I would if I were eating her pussy.

I yank my mouth from hers, licking over her swollen bottom lip before I release her hair. Bending down, I gather the fabric of her dress and slowly drag it up her legs until I get to her hips.

I look at her, wondering if she wants me to stop. I won’t, but I’m interested to see how she’s processing it all. Despite what others see, this woman is my motherfucking world. I promised myself that she would be the one thing I’d cherish. Though it’s killing me to deal with her memories of us being gone, I meant what I said about not hurting her. At least not the kind of hurt that can’t be fixed. I just need her to fall in love with me again. I don’t want her to get her memories back and, with them, the realization that she doesn’t need me anymore. She never did.
