Smiling, she shook her head. “I think I can make it on my own.” She stood and grabbed her handbag. She snatched it up with such force that it flew into Remy’s face.

“Oh my God! I’m so sorry!” she cried.

“Jesus, you need to take some things out of that bag?” he asked, holding his nose. “It’s way too heavy.”

“I need everything in there. My phone. Mints. Ten lip glosses?—”

“Ten lip glosses?” he interrupted, gaping at her.

She shrugged. “I like lip gloss. Are you all right?”

“I’m starting to think you don’t like my nose. But yeah, I’m good.”

“Sorry,” she whispered again. “I’ll be back in a minute.” She walked through the room, trying not to look at anyone as she headed to the restroom.

Although the one time she glanced up, she could have sworn that she saw Loki’s friend, Easton, sitting at a table across the room.

But then he turned away and she decided she was being paranoid.

She glanced back at the room, but couldn’t see their table. So she rushed over to flag down their server. “Can I pay the bill?”

“Um, sure.” The other woman gave her a curious look as Isa handed over her credit card. “Do you want me to bring this back to your table?”

“No!”

The other woman jumped. Shoot. Shewasacting like a crazy person.

“No, please just do it and bring it back to me here. I have to go pee.”

And she didn’t need to know that. But Isa headed to the restroom, did her business, then returned to find their server standing there with her card and receipt.

“Thanks!” She grabbed them both, tucking them into her handbag before rushing back to Remy.

He eyed her curiously. “Everything all right, baby?”

“Uh, yeah. All good.” She sat down, nearly falling off the side of her chair.

“Careful. Shall we go? I’ll just get the bill.”

“No need for that.”

“No? And why would that be?” he asked in a low drawl.

She swallowed heavily. “Because it’s already been paid.”

Isa had a feeling that she was in trouble right now.

You knew you were going to be.

“And who paid it, baby?” His voice was so gentle, but her danger alert level was on high.

It couldn’t go any higher.

It was going to blow.

“Me.”

“Hmm. That’s what I thought you were going to say. Didn’t we have a conversation about this?”
