Remy:Now? Why are you only leaving now? Did something come up?

Isa:Just had some extra jobs to do.

Remy:Are you going in late tomorrow?

Isa:I’ll see.

Loki:That means no.

Remy:That doesn’t make me happy. Drive safe, baby girl. Text me when you’re home. Loki, you have dinner for her?

Loki:Ready and waiting.

Warmth filledher at the way they took care of her. What would she do without them?

She never wanted to find out.

Walking out to the car felt like it took forever. She wished she wasn’t so tired. She reached for her keys to unlock her car . . . yes, Loki was always telling her to get them out before she left the building.

But did she ever remember?

Not really.

Then she realized that the driver’s door was slightly ajar.

Had she left it that way?

Shoot. She was an idiot. She thought she’d locked it but she mustn’t have.

Climbing in, she buckled up her seatbelt, then pressed the start button.

Nothing.

She tried again.

Still nothing.

Tears filled her eyes. Shoot.

Crying won’t help, Isa.

It had taken so much for her to drive here today and yesterday. Loki had wanted to keep driving her, but she’d known she had to do it. So Sunday evening after they’d gotten home from Aunt Marie’s, Remy had gone with her while she’d driven past the place she’d run off the road.

They’d done it several times until she felt more comfortable.

But now she was wishing she’d let Loki keep driving her.

A knock on the window made her jump and scream. She glanced up to find Shawn staring down at her.

“Everything all right?”

Great. Just what she needed. She opened her door.

“Dead battery.”

“I’ve got jumper cables. I can jump start you.”

“Really? Oh, that would be great.”
