“Fuck. She should hear this too. Give me five minutes.”

About three minutes later, Remy carried a sleepy-looking Isa into the living room on his hip. When she saw Loki sitting on the sofa, she leaned toward him.

“Careful, baby. You could get hurt doing that.” Remy slapped her butt before passing her to Loki who cuddled her close.

She still had her pacifier in her mouth. And even though he could tell Loki was getting impatient, he took a moment to hold her close.

“Tell me,” Remy finally said. “Who slashed your tires?”

Isa tensed and looked up at Loki. He glanced down and caught her up to speed. Then he sighed. “It was fucking Gary.”

“Gary! Fuck, I should have guessed.” Remy started pacing. “Motherfucker.”

“Gary?” Isa whispered after removing her pacifier. “Wow. He’s such a dick.”

“Yeah. He’ll be questioned by the cops in Stepford, but they’re keeping Ed in the loop.”

Remy glanced down at them both. “Could he have been the one who ran Isabelle off the road?”

“He better fucking not have!” Loki snapped. Rage fueled him and he tried to take a few deep, slow breaths.

Keep it together.

“He basically admitted to discharging a firearm on my land, so I wouldn’t put it past him. I’m going to message Ed and see if he can get the whoever is interviewing him to press him for answers.” Loki picked up his phone. “I was going to tell you guys this last night, Easton discovered that Gary is broke. He made several bad investments and he’s lost it all. Which is probably why he’s been acting more like an asshole lately. Although the ironic thing is that if he’d been less of an asshole, I’d probably have lent him the money he needed.”

“Whoa. I thought that maybe it was Shawn,” Isa said. “I told the detectives about that. And about anything else I could think of. Like my car being open when I thought I’d locked it.”

“What?” Remy snapped.

She shrugged. “I dunno. I thought I’d just forgotten, but the door was slightly open and the battery was dead. Shawn helped me. I didn’t think much of it. But sometimes I felt like I was being watched too.”

“Fuck, Tink. You have got to tell us these things.”

“I know I messed up!” she cried. “I just thought I was being paranoid. Nothing happened to my car. I figured it was just me being forgetful. But . . . it might not have been Shawn. It could have been Gary.”

Loki sent a text to Ed just as Isa’s phone started to ring. Remy picked it up off on the coffee table. He stiffened, then looked down at her. “It’s Xavier.”

Oh God.

Isa wasn’t ready. She felt like she was going to puke.

“Tink?” Loki asked. “Whatever it is, we’re here for you.”

She nodded. She knew that. They had her back.

It was the only thing that had allowed her not to obsess over the blood tests. To not worry and fret.

“Answer it, please?” she asked Loki. “On speaker?”

“Hey, Xavier. This is Loki. You’re on speaker with me, Remy, and Isa.”

“Hey, guys,” Xavier said warmly. “Listen, I’ve got Isa’s test results back. Isa, are you okay with me giving them to you now? In front of the guys? Or do you want to meet?”

“I’m okay now with Remy and Loki.”

“Okay, so what your results have shown is that you are anemic.”

She had her face scrunched up, ready for the worst. “What?”
