But Remy had the feeling that the key to winning his girl over . . . was winning her best friend.

He just wasn’t certain exactly what that scenario looked like. Or whether he was prepared for what he would be required to do.

Then again . . . Isa was worth it.

Worth everything.

“I’ll get you a Band-Aid.” She rushed off toward the bathroom.

“Don’t know why you didn’t tell her the truth,” Loki muttered. “And I don’t care. But you need to get off my couch, out of my house, and leave my girl alone.”

“Your couch and house? Not hers?”

“What?” Loki frowned. “Of course it’s hers. What it isn’t, is yours.”

They both fell silent as Isa returned, carrying the First-Aid kit. She set it down on the coffee table. “Hmm, do you want plain or rainbows?”

“Surprise me.”

“Yeah?” She grinned at him.

God, she was gorgeous.

And Loki got to see her every day. He got those smiles. He got to see her running around in pretty, lacy nightgowns.

Remy never got jealous.

Maybe you’ve never cared enough about someone to be jealous.

“Here, I’ll clean it first. Yourfingernailmight have been dirty.”

Was it his imagination, or did she place extra emphasis on the word fingernail?

“I’m sure he can do that himself, Tink,” Loki said in a tight voice. “In fact, he could even go home and do it.”

Isa turned to look up at Loki. “That’s not very nice. What’s wrong with you? You always say your house is open to anyone who needs something.”

What? He let just anyone into his house? While Isabelle was here?

Oh, Remy didn’t like that at all.

“That’s for people in need,” Loki pointed out. “This guy isn’t in need.”

Remy was too busy frowning up at Loki to see which Band-Aid Isa put on him. But he felt her press it lightly to his neck. Her other hand was on his shoulder to steady herself.

Reaching up, he placed his hands on her hips to help steady her. Loki moved immediately into action, drawing her back into his body.

“Loki! What are you doing?” Isa asked.

He was reacting like someone who’d noticed that someone else was after his favorite toy.

And he didn’t want to share.

Yep. This was definitely a problem.

“Why are you here?” Loki demanded. “In my house.”

“Hey! So it’s not my house too?” Isa turned her head to glare up at her best friend. She might have appeared angry, but he’d heard the hint of hurt in her voice.
