He was used to being the outsider. That’s how he’d always liked it.

So why was it starting to annoy him?

“Listen, Loki?—”

“No, you listen,” Loki interrupted him. “You’re upsetting her. You need to leave.”

“Loki, I’m fine.” She attempted to get around him, but he pushed her back.

“Be careful with her,” Remy snapped before he could think better of it.

Loki’s eyes flared. “I would never hurt Isa. You were upsetting her. And you need to get away from her before I make you.”

Hmm. Remy wasn’t so sure who would come out best between the two of them. Remy was bigger. But Loki was clearly a fighter and he wasn’t exactly small.

“Loki, it’s all right,” she said. “He didn’t mean to upset me.”

Loki narrowed his eyes at Remy, his warning clear.

Fuck, this wasn’t helping anything. The last thing he wanted was for Loki to hate him.

But he also needed to ensure that Isa was all right.

“Think about what I said, Princess.”

“Her name is Isabelle,” Loki said. “And what exactly did you say to her?”

Isabelle sighed. “He wanted me to tell you that the security light bulb had gone out and he replaced it.”

“Oh.” Confusion filled Loki’s face as he stepped to one side to look down at Isa. “Why would that upset you?”

“It was smashed,” he said, giving Isa a firm look. “I cleaned it all up and replaced it, but you might need to keep an eye on it. I don’t know why it would break like that.”

She nodded at him. He took that to mean she was going to tell Loki all of it.

Somehow, it still didn’t ease the tension he was carrying. However, he knew he had to leave before he caused a real scene.

“See you both later. Take care of her.”

Loki didn’t look angry, as he’d kind of expected after saying that.

Instead, he appeared thoughtful.

Remy wasn’t sure if that was better or not.

“See you next week, Isa!”

Isabelle looked up with a distracted smile as some of her colleagues called out to her on their way out the door.

God, this sucked.

She wanted to go home. It was Friday night and she just wanted to sit with Loki and binge-watch their favorite reality shows. Tonight, they were watching that series where strangers marry each other.

It was her favorite.

Loki preferred the one where ex-soldiers yelled at people until they cried.
