“Okay…first things first. We need to bag your arm. The splint can’t get wet. I’ll tape some plastic over your bandage as well.”

I remained silent and allowed Jonathan to work his magic. It wasn’t until he had a plastic tub filled with warm water and my body wash that he spoke again.

“I spoke to the kids about us,” he expressed as he tucked my hair into a shower cap.

“Oh, yeah? How did that go?”

“Daisy didn’t give a fuck. She just wanted to get back to Nori.”

“Of course,” I laughed. My laughter soon turned into groaning when he began washing my neck.

“Are you in—”

“Feels good—keep going.”

“Right. Grant and Casey took the news well. They were excited to know that you and Kiyah would be staying.”

“A little presumptuous of you, don’t you think?” I teased.

“Realistically, anything can happen, I guess. We could separate, but I refuse to entertain the notion. I told them I wanted to marry you one day, and you would become their stepmother.”

“You want to marry me?”

“Of course I do. I thought I’ve made my intentions clear,” he replied, pausing to kiss my chapped lips. It was a soft kiss, and it felt like a butterfly kissed me.

“I think it’s soooo amazing that you want to take my maiden name.”

Jonathan paused with the loofah in hand.

“I beg your pardon?”

“You’re taking my last name…right?” I joked. Except, from the look on his face, I could tell he thought I was serious.

“Kierra? How many of those pain pills did you take, sweetheart?”

“I’m joking, Jon. Relax.”

“I love you, Kierra, but I’m not in the mood for jokes. Your name will be Kierra Baker,” he asserted, kissing me on the cheek.

You don’t have to tell me twice, Daddy Baker.

“Kierra Baker…I like the sound of that.”

“Mhm. I also spoke with Kiyah and told her my intentions.”

That caught my attention.

“W-what did she say?”

“She was happy to know you two were staying because she likes her room.”

“I can’t blame her. It is a pretty snazzy room,” I commented when he scrubbed my free arm.

“If accounting didn’t work out for Anthony, he could’ve made it in interior design.”

“You’re stalling, Jon,” I insisted.

He smiled ruefully and shook his head. “I spoke with the kids about Eliza and how their relationship with her will look different in the future. Casey didn’t care, but Grant was upset and wanted to speak to her. I called Eliza’s sister a few times so Grant could speak with Eliza, but she never picked up. I left a message, but she never called back. I also received a mediation summons. Meaning—”
