I shook my head, realizing that I hadn’t thought of Rory at all. There was no guilt or shame—nothing but pure desire.

But now that I acknowledge this, I feel like shit.

He pulled away, giving me space, and a small smile tugged at the corner of my mouth at the gesture.

It’s Jonathan’s fault that I’m so fucked in the head. How can I possibly resist a man who’s so kind, considerate, caring, and selfless?

“No, it’s…it’s not that, but it is that, but—”

I sighed and massaged the back of my neck, trying to ease the building tension. He stared at me expectantly, waiting for an explanation. “Then what?” he asked when his patience finally wore off.

“This could become…complicated.”

“Complicated? Why should it?”

“You know, the whole mixing business with pleasure thing. We’d confuse the kids, and I’m not sure it’s a good idea.”

Jonathan licked his lips and adjusted himself. My horny self tracked his movement, and on instinct, my legs clampedtogether. “That makes sense. I’m sorry if I took it too far and made you uncomfortable, Kierra.”

I snorted and waved him off before sliding off the table. “You have nothing to apologize for. I was the aggressor. It should be me apologizing to you.”

“Don’t even think about it,” he said, brushing me off. “Let’s clean this mess up and eat. Dinner looks amazing.”

“Amazingly cold,” I commented.

“Did you know that the first microwave was invented in 1945?” he informed with a boyish grin.

“I don’t care if the first microwave was invented nearly 80 years ago; these steaks were too expensive to overcook in the microwave. I’ll warm them in the pan.”

“Whatever you want, Kierra.”

I want to choke on your fingers while you hit it from the back, but nobody asked me.

Jonathan

“I wanted to get back into art and started taking these classes at the local art center. They would offer free sessions every fourth Friday. That week, in particular, the class was focused on drawing the human body. Oh, my God. I can’t believe I’m telling this story.”

“Don’t stop,” I whispered, grinning when she shivered visibly. Like myself, she was still burning from our earlier encounter. I hadn’t planned it, but I thank God Kierra was the voice of reason. I wouldn’t have stopped if I hadn’t noticed how her body went still. I would’ve taken her on the dining room table amongst our meal, and we’d have to face the music later.

We’d finished dinner an hour ago, and I’d obliterated half of the mini raspberry chocolate tarts she made. She chastised me, explaining she wanted to save some for the kids and moved them out of my reach.

The soft glow of the dim lights washed over her, giving her an ethereal appearance, and the jazz music lowly playing in the background created a romantic ambiance. I never wanted the night to end, but we wouldn’t be worth a damn tomorrow if we didn’t call it soon.

Kierra cleared her throat before continuing. “Um….”

“The human body,” I reminded her.

“Right. Well, they decided to have nude models for the class, and you’d never guess who walked into the class wearing a robe.”

I sighed. “He’s a better man than me. I don’t think I have the balls to pose naked in front of an audience.”

“Trust me. You don’t have anything to be shy about,” she mumbled.

“Is that so?” I challenged. I sipped my beer and waited for her response.

I’ll take Deflection for $200, Alex.

“Anyway…Rory didn’t see me because I hid behind my canvas.”
