“About what?” I begin to fidget and pick at the hem of my shirt. Matt looks at the door to Ry’s room and back to me, and I know this isn’t going to be good.

“The results are back.”

“What results?”

“From the rape kit the doctor did on you.” I flinch, and he sees it. “No one is blaming this on you, Tamsyn. You do know that, right?”

“It’s just, my mom, she would.”

“Which is why you are no longer there,” he reminds me.

“Shouldn’t we wait for Rylan?”

“No. What I am going to say will only make things worse, and I can’t have that just yet. I need your help.”

“Okay.”

“Come to my office,” he says and turns to lead the way. I follow behind him, knowing I wouldn’t have a choice anyway since he’s a King. We step inside, and he closes the door, causing me to jolt a little. I’ve never been in his office without Rylan, and I’m a little on edge. “Sit,” he says, nodding to the chair. I walk over and sit down as he sits across the desk from me.

“Is everything okay?” I ask him. He shakes his head.

“No. It’s not. In fact, the rape kit came back and proved it was Brady who did it to you.” My mouth opens, but words won’t form. Tears start to fall down my cheeks as I stare at Matt. “The issue is this. Just because we have proof of what he did to you, he will deny it and lie, Tamsyn. Do you understand?” I nod my head because I do.

“He’s going to say it was consensual.”

“And I assume it wasn’t.” I shake my head as more tears stream down my cheeks. The Kings will believe him. They’ll believe everything he has to say because he, too, is a King. My heart feels like it’s going to shatter into a million little pieces. I feel sick to my stomach.

“Tamsyn, this is where I need the favor.”

“What could I do?” Matt sighs.

“I didn’t tell you this because, frankly, it was none of your business, but before Brady married your mom-” he begins, but I cut him off.

“He wanted me.” Matt narrows his eyes at me.

“Did Rylan tell you that?” I shake my head, still picking at the hem of my shirt.

“That night … the night he did … what he did, he told me. He said he was refused and offered my mom instead.”

“Fuck!” Matt roars, tugging at his hair. I startle slightly. “I’m sorry. You never want to hear that someone in your organization has done something so wrong.”

“I’m sorry,” I whisper.

“No. Never say sorry for something you didn’t want. What he did is unacceptable.”

“But we can’t prove it.”

“I think we can. That’s where I’ll need your help. As far as Rylan is concerned, he never wants you to return to that house again, but I’m asking you to.”

“What? Why?”

“To gain the proof we need against Brady. I will have someone install cameras in your room. I assume that’s where it took place?” I nod to confirm. “I’ll have cameras up and men outside ready at a moment’s notice.”

“What about my mom?”

“Does she know about this?”

“I honestly don’t know. I would hope not,” I tell him.
