“She asked for it!”

“Did she? Or did you just want to take it from her?” I ask, cocking my head and staring at him.

“You’re making a huge mistake,” he warns.

“I don’t think so.”

“You’ll be killed if you kill me!” he reminds me. I chuckle now.

“You think I’m afraid of death?” I ask him, shaking my head as I step closer to him. “I’ve lived in death all my life.”

“You kill me and then leave her. What sense does that make?” Is he really trying to convince me not to kill him by using Syn?

“You know she killed for me, right? Did you hear that?”

“I heard.”

“I never wanted it to get that far. I never wanted her to become like me. I wanted Syn to live a happy life. A life she wanted. And I still want that.”

“She won’t have that here, and you know it.” I nod my head.

“I know, which is why I have other plans for her. After I kill you, of course,” I remind him.

“You think they’ll let you get that far?”

I raise the gun and fire a round into his leg, having heard enough from him. He screams in pain and drops to the floor, holding his wounded leg. I raise my gun once more and slam it against the side of his head, watching him fall over.

“Get up,” I tell him. He shoves himself back up even though he’s dizzy and stands in front of me, swaying.

“Tell me what you did to her,” I demand. Brady shakes his head, refusing to tell me what Syn already did. “Tell me!”

“Fuck you,” he hisses. I raise the gun once more and slam it into his mouth. I see the blood before he spits his tooth onto the floor.

“Is that what you did to her? You fucked her?”

“Yeah, I did.”

“You raped her. She didn’t want you,” I growl this time. My anger is getting the best of me, and I know it. When I can’t take anymore, I can’t see straight. I raise the gun and place it against his temple. I see Hunter move up alongside me. I’m not really sure what it is he’s doing.

“Think about her, Brady. Think about what you did to her because it’ll be the last thing you think about,” I tell him before pulling the trigger. Blood sprays my face as his body drops to the floor. Hunter quickly moves to Brady’s body, puts his gun against Brady’s head, pulling the trigger. Was he not dead the first time? I don’t have time to think about it because the doors burst open, and masked men swarm in. I’m hit in the back of the head before I know what’s happening, and I fall to my knees. My gun is ripped from my hands, and a black hood is placed over my head. My hands are pulled behind my back and zip-tied. I don’t know what the fuck is happening, and I don’t really care.

I’m tugged to my feet and led out of the shack and through the trees. Then we’re tossed into what I assume is a van. A growl leaves my mouth as I reposition myself. None of us speak because we don’t know who the hell has us. It doesn’t seem to take long until the van comes to a stop. We’re dragged out of the back and forced to walk to wherever we’re going.

The temperature changes, and I know we’re now inside a building. I can feel the air conditioning. We’re herded further into the building until my legs are kicked out from under me, forcing me to stop. I fall to my knees, gritting my teeth. I’m going to fucking murder whoever it is who did this to us.

I hear people moving around, but no one is saying a word, and that makes me wonder who the hell is doing this. Why are they doing this?

I hear someone clear their throat, and then the hoods are ripped off our heads. I glance around and see we’re in Chaos. What the fuck is going on?

Glancing across the room, I see them, and I lose it. I jump to my feet with a roar until I’m knocked back down to the ground. This repeats a few times before something hits me in the back of the head. I fall forward, hitting my face on the floor before forcing myself upright.

“Now is the time to listen,” I hear my dad’s voice. I turn my head to look and see him, along with the other leaders, walking into the middle of the room. He doesn’t even look at me, and that makes me a little uneasy.

“What transpired today goes against the rules of the Kings. A King has taken another King’s life.” No one makes a sound not even the girls who are across from us with their hoods still on. It’s Syn, Angel, and Becky.

“The rules of being a King are spelled out for you when you’re young. You’re to follow the rules or face the repercussions. Those rules were not followed tonight,” my dad states as he looks to the other leaders. “King Rylan, please stand.” I hear the sob as it falls from Syn’s lips under the hood, and my heart fucking breaks for her.

I shove to my feet, walk to the center of the room, and wait for my punishment. Syn’s hood is ripped from her head, and my eyes meet hers. Silently, I tell her I love her. I hope she can see that in my eyes. I hope she knows I did this for her. Then I turn back to my dad.
