As a Princess, we aren’t allowed to know who the younger Kings are. Which again sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me. Why wouldn’t we be allowed to know their identity? Why keep us in the dark? I must groan out loud because Angel elbows me, dragging me back to my reality. I narrow my eyes at her when she nods toward Nash. His eyes are glued to mine, and he looks like he’s waiting for a response.

“If you weren’t daydreaming, you would have heard my question, Miss Willows.”

“Sorry,” I mumble as he resumes teaching.

Chapter 5

Rylan

I work out. A lot. It takes my mind off things and gives me a chance to breath. Being who I am takes a toll on me. My father is one of the leaders of our organization. He, along with a few others, built the King’s from the ground up into what they are today. What they were back before them was different. What the Kings are is up for debate. Mainly, we’re a group of guys who do bad things to bad people. We’re not just ruthless killers, though. We also do a lot for our community.

The older Kings have thriving businesses and often give back to the community through charities and things of that nature. Child sex trafficking plays a big role in what we do in the dark. We hunt them down, make them pay, and save lives. It’s time-consuming, and at times, it’s downright sad. But we are who we are, and we do what we do.

I was raised to do this. I was raised to be a King, and that’s exactly what I’m going to be.

“Have you been over to Chaos lately?” Levi asks me. I shake my head as I lift the weights in my hands.

“Not in about a week. Why?”

“Greg brought in some new assholes. They caught them down by the border,” he tells me. I smile at him. The traffickers they bring to Chaos are fair game. They usually drag out their deaths to make them suffer the way those poor girls do.

“You want to go over there?” I ask him. Levi shrugs his shoulders, but I know he does. It’s been a while since we’ve gotten our hands dirty.

“Might as well,” he says, setting his weights down. I nod my head and stand from the bench I was sitting on, grabbing my towel to wipe my face. My chest is heaving as I catch my breath when I spot her out of the corner of my eye. I turn around and watch her through the glass window as one of the trainers works with her.

Princesses don’t have to train the way she does. They just have to know how to fight, and Syn knows exactly how to do that. She trains nearly every day and every chance she gets. I don’t understand why at this point, but I know I’ll find out soon enough.

Her hair falls out of the bun, and she quickly swipes it away. They spar a little more when she must feel me watching her. She turns her head slightly, and our eyes lock through the glass. Her trainer doesn’t take it easy on her. He slams his gloved hand into her stomach, causing her to double over and gasp for air. The thought of him touching her pisses me off, but she signed up for this, and she lost her focus just then.

Her trainer steps out of the ring and grabs her bottle of water before he climbs back in, offering it to her. She takes it, and her head slowly comes back to look at me. I want to smirk at her and piss her off a little, but I don’t. Instead, we stare each other down. I know I push her buttons, and I don’t give a damn.

“You going to fuck her right here in the gym?” Silas laughs. I pull my gaze from hers and turn to face him.

“Not today.”

“We heading out?” he asks. I nod my head and wrap the towel around the back of my neck before grabbing my bag and slinging it over my shoulder. I’m heading out the side door when I see her once more.

“Keep your focus,” I tell her as she starts to jog past me.

“What?”

“I said, keep your focus. Don’t let anything pull your attention from what you’re doing. You’ll lose,” I tell her.

“And you care why?” she snaps back at me. I step closer to her, flipping her long dark hair over her shoulder before grabbing her around the back of her neck and dragging her toward me.

“It was something I learned the hard way, Syn,” I answer as I reach up with my other hand and pull my shirt down just enough for her to see the scar. Her eyes move to my chest and linger there for a long second.

“What happened?”

“I lost my focus. I let something else distract me,” I confess. Without thinking about it, Syn reaches up and runs her fingers over the scar on my chest. Fire burns in my veins as she touches me. She’s never touched me, not like this. I reach up and slap her hand away, releasing her neck and stepping back.

“What distracted you?” she asks. Now I smirk because it was her, but I’d never let her know that.

“That’s none of your business. Go jog,” I tell her. She huffs a breath through her nose and then takes off jogging.

“What was that?” Levi asks.

“Just telling her to keep her focus,” I reply as we turn and walk to the SUV. We climb in, and I crank the air up to cool down a little when Levi starts driving.
