“She said let her go.” Easton stepped forward.

“Patrick,” I said, also stepping forward, hating that I was on this delicate balance of not making this situation worse, but just realizing ‘fuck it’.

“You can have her,” he shoved her towards us. “She’s just a dumb whore.”

“Who you took advantage of,” Easton snapped back. “She’s in debt and you owe her. The company owes her.”

“I’m not paying her shit.” Patrick glanced at Noemi.

“Then have the fucking company do it,” Easton argued.

“The company tanked six months ago, not much we can do about it,” Patrick shrugged. “Even if I wanted to, there is no way she can prove it was for my company and not just an investment?—”

Easton punched Patrick, stunning all of us. Time slowed for a minute before Patrick went for Easton and they grappled for a moment.

“Guys, stop it,” Noemi said, trying to pull them apart.

I pushed her behind me.

“Stop!” I yelled, pulling Patrick off of Easton.

“Get your fucking hands off me,” Patrick snarled, pushing me away.

“I hope you’re all fucking happy with each other and you can think twice about seeing your granddaughters ever again,” he yelled, walking away.

The ding of the elevator let us know he had left, but no one said anything. It was like we were waiting for the rubble to settle.

“So, was this all a game to you?” Easton spoke first.

“No, it wasn’t,” Noemi replied, rubbing her arm.

“So, I wasn’t a part of some revenge plot?” Easton wiped blood off his lip.

Her silence confirmed it, but the woman I had been around didn’t seem like the type of person who did that.

“Look, I didn’t meet you that second night because I had talked myself out of it. Then I saw you at that kinky party and well, I thought, I’ll sleep with his best friend, I’ll get a few orgasms, win win,” she said, running her hand through her hair. “I didn’t expect to see you again and I didn’t expect to like you so much.”

He stared at her.

“Easton, everything has been genuine, I swear. It might have started as me trying to get back at Patrick, but honestly it was just for me. I wasn’t going to tell him or do anything with that information,” Noemi’s voice faltered.

“You sure you didn’t look me up, and that’s the reason you offered to marry me either?” Easton raised his voice. “Or was it to get close to Vincent so he could pay off your debt?”

“Excuse me?” she snapped.

“You played the victim very well.”

“Easton, no. I?—”

“It just seems oddly suspicious, Noemi,” he snapped at her. “This whole thing was a mistake.”

He walked away when Noemi grabbed his hand.

“Please, Easton,” she said, looking back at me. “Can we just sit down and talk? Communication is key right?”

“Communication? That should have happened when you first met me or maybe coming clean before we signed a fucking contract,” he said, pulling his hand away from hers.

“I need some fucking space. I just can’t deal with this.” He walked away from her… from us.
