“Noemi?”

I snapped my attention to him wondering how the hell I could have missed the fucking signs again. For fuck’s sake, he lived in a goddamn suburb, if that didn’t scream family man then I don’t know what did.

God, I’m so stupid.

I turned away quickly, almost slipping on some ice as I walked away from them. Once I got my balance, I just kept walking.

“Noemi!” He yelled after me only making me move faster, so he didn’t see my heartache and I wouldn’t have to see my worst nightmare.

“Noemi, stop!”

He yelled again, but I didn’t stop, trying to be careful so I didn’t slip. The wind was starting to pick up and I knew it was only a matter of time before he caught up to me. I went into the first restaurant that was open, immediately going to the bar, finding the first open space.

“Hey sugar, what can I get you?”

“A shot of tequila please,” I said, sitting in the chair catching my breath and setting my phone down.

“Make that two please.”

Easton sat in the chair right next to me. I refused to look at him.

“Noemi, look at me,” he said, turning towards me.

If I looked at him, I was going to break. I stayed silent until the bartender came back.

“I’ll have another please,” I said, taking the shot quickly.

“She can have mine,” he told the bartender, holding out cash to her. “No change.”

She left with the cash.

“Please look at me,” he said.

I took the shot quickly, closing my eyes to keep myself from looking at him.

“She’s my sister's kid and that was my sister,” he sighed. “I’m not married.”

“Not my business,” I said, getting up to walk away, wondering if he was telling me the truth. I mean, he was here with me and if it was his wife, would he have left her? Nope, I’m done, I can’t be fucking doing this.”

“Noemi,” he chastised me.

“Don’t, Easton,” I said, still not looking at him, feeling like the weight of everything finally hitting me. I grabbed the letter I had for him out of my bag, deciding that words on a paper were just fine. “I just stopped by Genevieve’s to give you this.”

I put the letter in his hand.

“What is it?”

“I’ll see you later,” I said, walking away.

“I’ll come with you to Vincent’s,” he said, following me.

“No, leave me alone,” I snapped. “Go back to ignoring me, and we can both move on.”

“Noemi,” he said, opening the door.

“Oh, fuck you, Easton,” I snarled, getting more upset as I walked outside. “Don’t pretend you care all of a sudden.”

He sighed and I hated how composed he was right now. Getting ready to walk away from him, I realized I left my phone at the bar.
