“One, we know each other, but not well enough for me to ask to stay and two, I really didn’t want to leave you guys.” I said the half-truth because admitting I was being a stubborn woman and asking for help meant that I was weak, wasn’t something I wanted to admit right now.

“Noemi.” Carly sounded like she was chastising me.

“Don't. Get your things and let's get a good night's rest. We can figure out something tomorrow,” I said, opening the trunk to pull out my suitcase and a small bag of my toiletries.

“Let me help.” Vincent grabbed my suitcase and my bag.

“Thanks,” I said, pulling out another bag for Marsha.

“I got it.” Easton grabbed the two suitcases the girls had.

We each grabbed another bag before closing up the jeep and heading to the elevator. Vincent didn’t hit the PH button, instead hitting floor twenty-seven. We exited the elevator to see an older doorman at apartment twenty-seven fifteen.

“Here you are, Mr. Barros,” he smiled, giving Vincent a set of keys.

“Thank you, Roberto. Say hello to the missus for me.” Vincent smiled fondly at the man.

“I will! She’s getting ready to make tamales soon, better put your order in.” The man chuckled while getting into the elevator.

“Tell her I want at least six dozen,” he replied, before the elevator shut.

“Tamales?” I asked, thinking that sounded delicious.

“She makes delicious red and green ones,” he said, opening the door to a beautiful apartment. “You ladies can stay here for as long as you need it.”

The girls and I walked in. The apartment was an open concept and looked to be fully furnished.

“There’s two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, it's fully furnished and comes with everything you might need. The utilities are on except the internet, but I can have someone come tomorrow to install it.”

“Oh my god, look at that fucking view!” Marsha squealed from one of the bedrooms.

The girls ran to the other bedroom squealing. This was ten times better than our old apartment and in a better neighborhood. The girls also weren’t too far from the university. Tears gathered in my eyes and before I could think better of it, I rushed to hug Vincent.

“Thank you,” I said, against his chest.

“Noemi, which room do you want?”

I turned around to see the girls in the kitchen.

“Noemi will be staying with us,” Vincent said, immediately.

“I don’t…”

“Stay with us,” Easton said from behind us.

I looked over my shoulder at him feeling like we were mountains apart. I shouldn’t have lied to him.

“Ok,” I said.

“I’ll have breakfast delivered to you and I’ll have Noemi get in touch with you about the internet. Now if you don’t need anything else, we will be going.” Vincent grabbed my suitcase while I said bye to the girls.

“Have fun,” Carly whispered.

I laughed. If she only knew what had happened before we picked them up. My cheeks burned as we left the apartment. Hearing them lock up eased a bit of my worry. The ride up to the penthouse was quiet and awkward.

The moment we stepped off the elevator, my body and mind were sluggish. We walked in silence into Vincent's bedroom, the weight of what had happened tonight made me uncomfortable. It also made me feel like I had disappointed them, and I hated that feeling.

“Shower?” Vincent asked, unbuttoning his shirt.
