I gave the reporter what they needed before I walked over to them. They turned towards me with big smiles that made my heart leap in my throat. Yeah, I was fucked. I was tied up bent over with a ball gag in my mouth, fucked. Of course, I would start having feelings for my best friend's dad and a woman who was not emotionally available.

“You ready?” I asked, trying to keep my emotional baggage in check tonight.

“Yes,” Noemi smiled at me. “Your Spanish was sexy as hell, and you looked so sophisticated talking to the reporter.”

“You're not the only one who thought so,” Vincent grumbled.

“Is that jealousy I hear in your voice?” I looked back at Vincent.

“Ford is cute, but boy is he handsy,” Noemi said, threading her hand through my arm walking up the stairs.

“He wasn't handsy,” I said quickly.

“You survived!” Ford came out of a set of doors. “That’s my least favorite part of the job, having to deal with the press, but you looked like you did well.”

Ford touched my arm and I swear I heard a “told ya so” coming from one of them.

“Yeah, I hate the media too,” I said, pulling away from his touch.

“I put you and your guests at the table on the right-hand side of the stage.” He pointed us in the direction we needed to go. “Please let me know if you need any help.”

He brushed against my arm, giving me a big smile while I felt Noemi tense against me.

“Thank you,” I said, almost dragging Noemi away from him.

“You were saying,” Noemi said sweetly, making me chuckle.

“Easton, is that you?” A guy walked up to me looking like he knew me, but I had no clue who the hell he was.

He laughed.

“Sorry, I thought you might remember me from a few years ago,” he smiled. “You helped my nephew, Gage.”

“Oh yeah, I do remember,” I said, shaking his hand. “I’m sorry, I didn’t recognize you…”

“Don’t worry about it, I’m sure you see lots of families from the kids you’ve helped,” he said. “I just want to thank you again, you’ve been such a big help and I feel like we owe you everything.”

“Hey, don’t worry about it,” I said, noticing that Gage was singing with his band on stage. “He just needed help and I’m glad I was able to.”

“No, you saved him, Easton. Gage would not be here today if it weren’t for you,” he said, looking back at his nephew.

I hated admitting he was right. Gage was a troubled kid. His parents were awful and if he hadn’t come to us, drugs would have taken his life.

“I was just there for him,” I said, feeling self-conscious with Noemi and Vincent close by.

We had never talked about what I did specifically as a lawyer.

“That was more than anyone else was willing to give him,” he said with a grim expression. “I’m sorry, I just wanted to say thank you and I didn’t mean to take you away from your date.”

He smiled at Noemi.

“Any time, man, I’m glad he has you now.” I nodded at him before he walked away.

“You’re incredible, Easton,” Vincent said, making me beam with his approval.

I continued walking to our table when the last person I expected to see walked in front of me.

“Easton, darling.” My mother hugged me even though I was holding on to Noemi.
