“I guess not,” she sighs. “Kinda saved my life so…”

“Exactly. But about that…” I trail.

She cocks an eyebrow at me, and I smirk.

“No more jobs with the Brotherhood. You’re retired.”

Laughing, she leans back, resting her elbows against the rail, “I think I can live with that.”

“Besides, you’re going to be way too busy to be dealing with Brotherhood shit.”

“What do you mean?”

“One sec,” I press a kiss to her forehead and make my way back inside the apartment, heading for my safe. Scanning my thumbprint, I wait as the door pops open, and I reach inside, retrieving the stack of papers.

Tapping the stack against my hand as I make my way back out onto the balcony, I stop and pull up a chair at the small table outside.

“What’s going on?” Spencer asks as she steps toward me crossing her arms over her chest, and eyeing me cautiously.

“Well, awhile back, I had this hare-brained fucking idea. I was hell bent on getting you your life back, but, I also wanted you to be able to keep pieces of this new world you’ve created for yourself. Maybe even expand it a little.”

“You’re not making any sense Trav.”

“Remember when you caught me and Rico chatting and you got all up in his business about it?”

“Vaguely,” she rolls her eyes. She knows damn well what I’m talking about, but I’ll let the eye roll go. For now.

“Well, see the thing is red, I made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.”

“And that was?”

Tapping the folded stack of papers against my palm once more, I release a breath before handing them over. Uncrossing her arms, she takes the papers.

Unfolding them, her face shifts, changes. She looks confused, but then it’s like she understands. Her eyes well up, and I know she gets it now, “Travis, what is this?”

“Read it.”

“I did, but I -”

“I bought the bar.”

“Why would you do that?”

“Rico wants to retire, but he didn’t have many options with the bar. So I gave him one. I bought it.”

Shaking her head in disbelief, she looks back up at me, “But why would you do that?”

“Take a look at the last page.”

Flipping through the pages, she reaches the end and stops.

“Serious?”

“As a heart attack.”

“It’s…mine?”

“All you gotta do is sign next to the x babygirl.”
