I make my way around the bar, and grab the two pitchers, while he juggles the glasses for me as we walk back to his high top. I make my rounds, saying hi to all the guys, when I notice Travis out of the corner of my eye. This time he’s not staring me down, he’s in deep conversation with Rico.

Rico looks like he’s thinking, like something is swirling around in his head, and he rubs his chin, nodding as Travis speaks. Travis pulls his phone from his pocket and swipes or motions to the screen, I can’t be too sure because they are so far away. Rico nods some more and a big smile crosses his face.

He claps his hand down on Travis’s shoulder and they exchange some more words and a few laughs. Then they shake hands, and Rico makes his way back to the bar.

What the fuck was all that about?

My curiosity gets the better of me, so I excuse myself from the guys, letting them know to come see me if they need refills, and I make my way back to the bar.

“Rico, what was that?”

“What was what honey?” he blinks at me with a confused look on his face.

Putting one hand on my hip, I raise an eyebrow, giving him a knowing glance. “You and Travis. What were you guys over there chatting it up about?”

“Oh that,” he waves at me, “Nothing for you to worry about. Just some business.”

“Rico, you’re straight, what business could you possibly have with Travis?”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” he quips.

“It means he’s Brotherhood and apparently you knew that long before I did, because you were born and raised in this city. So again, what business could you possibly have with the Brotherhood?”

“Ahh, so dramatic. Nothing Brotherhood. Just man to man.”

Crossing my arms over my chest, I purse my lips and give him a look.

“Also, Cole and I have closing handled tonight. So once everyone clears out, you’re good to head out.”

“But -“

“No buts, we have to show the new girl the ropes anyway, and actually,” he looks down at his wristwatch. He licks his lips and lets out a sharp, ear piercing whistle then cups his hands around the sides of his mouth, “Last call!”

With that he wanders away, and I’m left to fill the last few drink orders and cash out the tabs. When I look up at the high tops in the back, Travis sits, staring at me, leaning back with a smug fucking look on his face.

Chapter twenty-four

Travis

“You know, I’m going to have to actually go back there and tell him right? I’m going to have to tell him that I’m leaving him, and that does require me leaving your eyesight for more than 2.5 seconds,” she mutters, kicking the garage door shut behind her as she pulls her hair down from her ponytail.

“He’s been taken care of,” I assert, shrugging my jacket off of my shoulders and throwing it over the banister at the bottom of the steps.

“What do you mean ‘taken care of’?” she asks, throwing up air quotes with her fingers giving me a mocking expression.

“I mean, he’s been taken care of. He’s not around anymore. He’s a non-factor and you don’t have to worry about him,” I step forward closing the space between us. Reaching out, I run my hands down her arms, feeling the goosebumps creep across her flesh at my touch.

“Did you kill him?” she scoffs, jerking backward, shaking away from my touch.

“Do you want me to kill him?”

“Why would you ask something like that?”

I shrug my shoulders, not sure what the fuck she’s getting at, “You’re the one who brought up murder.”

“Yeah,” she snaps, “because I know what you’re involved in, but the last thing I want you doing is killing for me.”

Turning around, she stomps up the steps, and I follow closely behind her.
