Page 7 of Hiding Desire

“Which ones?”

She pointed out the names, and Loch highlighted them in his notes. They were weak links in the chain, easy to exploit. The question was, did we want to leave some deliberate bait?

“Shall we do a walk-through?” Kia asked.

I’d rather pull my fingernails off, but I rapped my knuckles on the table and got up reluctantly.

She took us through some tired-looking backstage areas and a very grubby office before leading us into the crowds on the main floor. The air here was sickly sweet. Since they banned cigarette smoking inside, clubs like these had to mask the smell of sweat and pussy that permeated the place another way. The cheap solution was pumping in an air freshener like they were doing here.

Kia caught the twitch of my nose and nodded. “It’s on my list to fix.”

My clubs were classy and expensive. It didn’t matter if the surrounding area was a shithole. Arseholes flocked to more upscale places, and they spent more. I might be a thug and a criminal, but I wasn’t stupid. I spent a long time studying business, which was one reason my organisation did well. People underestimated a smiling Irish man, and more often than not, it killed them.

Kia had us pause as she painted her vision for the central area. The DJ announced a new dancer on the main stage. Desire. I scoffed internally. Could these stage names be any cheesier? I watched a woman draped in a riot of colour stride onto the stage. My heart thudded dully in my chest. Time slowed as her every step brought her closer to me, but she still seemed far away. Skull face paint adorned her features, and sparkly crystals caught the light along her full lips. Her dark hair was piled onto her head in a high ponytail. The wrap she wore was silky, and it shimmered under the lights.

The UV flicked on, and her face glowed as she danced. The bones down the centre of her chest flashed luminescent before disappearing behind the robe. My heart smashed against my rib cage as she flashed a golden-skinned shoulder, complete with another glowing white bone. Was she covered in only bones? The tendrils of fascination tightened around me as the music thumped through me. I watched her twist and move like liquid. Her robe fell open, and the effect of her phosphorescent skeleton dazzled under the lights.

“Sean.” Loch’s voice infiltrated my addled brain, and I snapped my eyes away from the woman.

“Did you hear anything Kia said?”

“No. That’s what you’re here for.” My eyes pulled back toward the main stage like a magnetic force. Now, she hung upside down, and the robe was gone. Arousal thumped through my body.

Her lithe body was glowing, covered in white bones, and her full tits were straining against gravity, and a single luminescent rib bone pulled across her nipples. My cock hardened as I watched her wind sinuously down the pole to the ground.

Fuck. This wasn’t me. I owned a massive number of strip clubs, and I never mixed business with pleasure. But I couldn’t tear my eyes away. My reaction to her was violent like a mania had descended upon me.

Just then, she looked directly at me. Her crystalline blue eyes captured mine. Only the two of us existed at that moment. She had me in a chokehold that reached right down to my balls. Her gaze held secrets, and instantly, I wanted to know them.

The song changed, and she returned to her routine, pulling her eyes away. Loch gripped my arm, anchoring me back to reality as the sound and smells of the club rushed back over me.

“You’re dribbling,” he said under his breath.

I shot him a look that made most men shit themselves and resisted punching him in the kidney. Kia led us back towards the VIP area, and I couldn’t help but watch the woman on the pole as we climbed the steps.

“She’s wearing quite a costume, that one,” Kia remarked as she reached the VIP balcony. “Do you want her up here to dance?”

My eyes locked on to the fucking melters crowded around the stage, drooling over her. A potent hostility coursed through me, and I was seized by the desire to brandish my gun and fire off shots to clear the place. Instead, I nodded to Kia, who radioed someone, and I watched until the dancer left the main stage.

This wasn’t part of tonight’s plan.

Kia led us back to the wide booth. I slid in and adjusted myself discreetly. Loch smirked as he sat beside me opposite Kia, so I kicked him under the table, making him grunt.

Kia continued outlining her plan for the club and gave us a brief overview of the accounts. I tried to relax in the booth, spreading out and maintaining the outward appearance of calm. My mask of composure was thinner than usual as I wondered what was taking the dancer so long. I loosened my jacket. It was hot in here, or maybe that was the fire she had stoked inside me. I left my waistcoat buttoned as it was lined with the thinnest layer of bulletproof material – like all my waistcoats. Nothing was truly bullet-or knife-proof, but my three-piece suits were more than just mental armour.

The door opened, and she walked in. I sucked in a breath. Her height rose to nearly six feet in her heels. I imagined her long, skeleton-clad legs wrapped around me. She paused, watching the main stage before turning and freezing like a deer in headlights. Her gaze roamed all over me, igniting my instincts. The predator inside me watched her from behind my eyes. With her closer, the pull was more potent and the compulsion fiercer.

She hesitated for a few more seconds before turning towards the pole. There was no teasing seduction as she dropped her wrap and immediately twisted around the pole.

I stifled the groan as she swayed with the music. This wasn’t like me, yet my vision was full of only her. I glanced at Loch, whose eyes were firmly on his drink.

Kia looked up. “Do you need me for anything else, or shall I leave you for the evening?”

“No. We’ll be going shortly,” I dismissed her.

We had enough information for now. Eventually, I might bring Kia in on things, but I’d let her do her job for now. We should have left, but I didn’t move a muscle, mesmerised by the sway of the dancer’s hips.

Feverishness inside me forced me to shed my suit jacket. As if towed by an unknown force, I stood from the booth to observe her more closely. A fanatical need to get closer drew me forward.
