I make my way back to my office. A small smile crosses my lips as I think about what may be on her most desired list and what pleasure I could inflict on her body.

I’d ruin her for all other men.

I need that paperwork. I need to read about what she likes. What she wants. What she deserves.

I rub a hand over my chin. It’s only eleven in the morning and I already need a scotch.

This might not be such a dreary day after all.

Chapter Three

Imogen

Tell me about yourself?

I feel like I swallowed fireballs because I can’t seem to string a simple sentence together.

And what do I tell him? That I’m a loser who can’t keep a boyfriend or get a job in the field I love so much? Lukas was kind enough to give me some office work after the pandemic was over, and I’ve been waiting tables, unsure if I wanted to go back into my chosen field.

I loved my job at Cartier. I started as a sales assistant and worked my way up. I was training to be a buyer when the pandemic hit. Slowly, after everything got back on its feet, Cartier did some cut backs and I was unfortunately on that list.

I know I’ve been hiding out. Licking my wounds from Nate, and from missing my dad so much.

Jesus, Imogen, you need to make some life changes soon girl…

I know I’m outstaying my welcome with Ariana and Lukas, not that they’d ever say anything, but they’re still in the honeymoon phase. It can’t be fun for them.

“Do I make you uncomfortable?” he asks suddenly.

I shake my head. “No. I’m sorry. I don’t know how to do this.”

He smirks. “There is no right or wrong, my Krasavitsa. But I find talking can often break the ice a little.”

He’s right… I just need to focus on the good things about myself and not the negative.

And definitely do not bring up my ex.

I smile softly and clear my throat. “I’m currently living in Montlake.”

He whistles between his teeth. “Nice part of the city.”

“Yes. But it’s not my home, I’m currently…” Not couch surfing, not couch surfing. “Uh, between apartments and staying with my best friend and her husband. I’m actually taking a little life break right now.” Does it sound like I’m an unemployed, freeloader who has to pay for sex?

Is he wondering why I’m here, or doesn’t he care? I guess he’s getting paid after all…

His fingers brush against my shoulder where his arm still drapes over the back of the couch. That one, small movement sends shivers down my spine and heat rushing between my legs.

If I’m honest, I was wet when he walked in the door.

This whole seduction scene of him pretending to care about me and what I do is a turn on like nothing else. I’m loving Margaret a whole lot right now.

“A life break?” he mutters as if testing out the words. His eyes dip to my lips and I try incredibly hard not to squirm under his scrutiny. “And how is that going for you?”

Two fingers trail back and forth over my skin. The heat is unbearable…

“It’s been… great.” Well, aside from my mom trying to sue me and breaking up with my boyfriend because ‘he wasn’t sure’. Then there's living out of boxes and suitcases because I can’t afford my own place… I’m just dandy.

I take another well needed sip of my champagne and he does too, our eyes meeting over the rim of my glass.
