I feel jittery. About the job and the date.

I hope they make a decision and don't keep me waiting, though the recruitment personnel told me on the phone they were looking to hire immediately.

I pull on my foolproof skirt suit and pair it with flesh colored panty-hose and a cream blouse. I also wear my glasses and tie my hair up in a neat, tight-fitting bun. I normally wear contacts, but I think glasses are a good call today. They make me look smarter.

I want to look like someone this company can trust, someone they want to hire.

I pair all that with some heels, only four-inch as I want to be able to walk.

I spray on a small amount of my favorite perfume, aptly named Pleasures, and check my appearance.

It’s almost spring outside, but there’s still a chill in the air and April rarely gets above 65F.

I pull my long, warmer trench coat on and grab my purse.

The ride downtown doesn’t take too long, and before I know it, I’m riding up the elevator of a swanky office building downtown. When I arrive, I reiterate to ask for Doris Whitman, the lady who called for the interview.

I try not to think about anyone else who may be applying. I’m in with a shot, and if I can talk my way into any job, then this is it.

I glance down at my phone and smile.

Charlize

Break a leg! I miss you x

I quickly type a message back.

Me

I’m so nervous! But ty babe. Ru keeping out of trouble?

Charlize

Me? NEVER ??

I laugh, tucking my phone away so I appear professional from the moment the elevators open.

When they do, I’m greeted by a snooty looking woman who looks at me completely bored when she asks my name.

I smile warmly. “Imogen Anderson to see Doris Whitman. I have an interview.” I’m also fifteen minutes early. I like to be punctual.

“Thank you, Miss Anderson. I’ll let her know you’re here. Please take a seat.”

I nod and move over to the row of seats, thankful nobody else is waiting.

Soothing elevator music sounds as I take in the starkness of this floor and lack of decor.

The carpet is new, and I can still smell the fresh paint.

I wonder where the new store is going to be and how long until it opens. I’d have to give Lukas notice, but I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if it was immediate. It was he who told Ariana about the position.

All these thoughts flash through my mind as I wait.

When I feel my phone vibrate, I reach into my purse.

Khristian

I’m looking forward to our date. I’ve made reservations at The Rose Vine at 9pm.
