“Do you use them?” she asks.

“I have no use for them,” I tell her honestly, momentarily stunned by her frankness.

Her cheeks flush. “And I do, right?”

I move a hand up to her chin and lift it. “That isn’t what I meant. I’m not a gentle man, my little rose. Forgive me. I have a hard time separating my work from my private life. I don’t have a lot of down time. I don’t often… converse with women.”

“But you do have sex with them?”

“Yes, but it’s just sex. I don’t want to know about them. With you, it’s different. Maybe it’s because of how we met…”

“Which you have no remorse for,” she mutters.

I chuckle. “I’d have to agree with you. I have no remorse. I’m only sorry I upset you.Tell me you’ve considered my proposal?” She swallows hard as I remember my manners and reach for the bottle of wine in the cooler. “Chardonnay?”

She nods, taking the empty glass gratefully as I begin to pour. “Thank you.”

I don’t like my women to drink too much, but alcohol usually dusts off the nerves.

I smile when I think about the half a glass of bubbles she had in the hotel suite. She didn’t need any alcohol then to let go of her inhibitions.

I’m rock-hard thinking about it.

“Khristian, oh god, I’m coming…”

My dick twitches in my pants, but for now I have to behave. Getting her to come on a date with me is one thing, her agreeing to work for me is quite another.

I give her a pointed look. “My proposal?”

“I’ve given it some thought. Doris sent me the paperwork this afternoon.”

Doris. My savior.

If she showed any interest in the real reason I was sending Imogen flowers, she didn’t say anything. She knows when to poke her nose in and when not to.

“And?”

“And you’re right, the company perks do seem… generous.”

Oh, you have no idea.

I sip on my wine, pleased with her words. “Yes, they are.”

“But,” she states, earning me a small smile. “We can’t do this.” She motions between us. “And work together.”

My eyebrows knit together. “Why not?”

She laughs without humor. “I read the company policy.”

“Fuck the policy. I’ll change it.”

She sighs and I stare at her curiously. I love the fact that she just says it like it is and doesn’t cower to me like most people. I can be intimidating, but she’s just taking it all in her stride.

“I need this job, Khristian. And if we keep… seeing each other, then things could get complicated, and messy.” She’s right. I know she’s right.

“So that’s it? I have to see you every day but I can’t put my hands on you, is that what you want?”

I wait with bated breath for her to answer, because whatever comes out of her mouth next, could be my undoing.
