“Ah, Imogen,” she says, ushering me in. “Sorry for being so cryptic. Khristian had to go to a meeting this afternoon, and he asked me to deliver the keys to you personally. Just let me know if everything is in order. Everything should be working, but it has been empty for a while.”

I frown. “I’m sorry, Doris, you’ve lost me.”

She glances up. I can’t tell if she’s onto us, doesn’t care, or will just keep it to herself. It could go either way.

“The apartment,” she says. “All of Khristian’s executives have an apartment paid for by the company.”

My eyes widened. “What?”

She shrugs. “Perks of the job. Khristian must really like you if he’s given you this promotion. I’d take that as a compliment. He can be difficult to get along with, as you saw this morning, but if you put your head down and ass up, he’s a wonderful boss, and loyal to those that are worthy.”

Head down, ass up? She has no idea the connotations she just erupted in my mind with that comment.

“It was all a little scary,” I admit. “But an apartment?”

“Khristian said you were in between places at the moment, so it seems like perfect timing. Though you’ve only got the weekend to properly settle in, we’ll be flying out on Thursday to Charles de Guille.”

I am speechless. This man is over the top.

He doesn't even know what type of buyer I’m going to make. I’m still in training with lots to learn. I’m even rethinking if I’ve taken off more than I can chew. On the other hand, I don’t want to let Khristian down. I want him to be proud of me. Which is dumb.

I’m screwing the boss.

It could all come tumbling down once he gets sick of me. I’m best off keeping that in the back of my mind. Getting ahead of myself is premature and naive.

Khristian Petrov is a man who can get anything he wants. Then again, the chances of me stopping are zero to none. He’s like an addiction that I can’t shake.

I’ve done things I’d never dream of doing, because it pleased me and I also wanted to please him.

The way he worshiped me on his knees just this morning… It still has my stomach in knots.

I realize Doris is staring at me. “Is everything alright, dear?”

I shake it off. “Yes, of course. I’m just a little overwhelmed by everything.”

She smiles kindly. “I can understand that. It’s been a whirlwind.”

“It certainly has.”

“Well, you’d better get used to it. This is what it’s like working for a man like Mr. Petrov.” She’s back to business now and I hide my smile. “You never know if you’re coming or going.” She rummages around on the desk and then hands me an envelope. “There’s the address. Twenty-fourteen Belview Avenue, King County. It’s located within the Denny Triangle. You’ve heard of it?”

I nod. “Wow. That’s a nice area.”

She smiles. “Mr. Petrov does nothing half assed, dear. It has full amenities, a gym, pool, doorman, Wi-Fi, on-site property manager, maid service, lounge, movie theater, bicycle storage, it’s also pet friendly. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen and is located on the top floor, lucky you, you get a rooftop terrace.”

Oh. My. God.

I press my hands together nervously. “That’s amazing,” I say, because it’s rude to say nothing at all. My mind, however, is doing overtime all by itself.

This is too much, by anyone’s standards. “I think I need to sit down.”

She gives me a small laugh. “We can also arrange movers. Just let me know if you want to organize that before or after Paris. The apartment is fully furnished. And if you’d like to go view it first, the driver can take you there shortly.”

Before or after Paris.

I would love to check it out. “That would be great, thank you,” I say. “I have most of my things in storage, and then the rest are crammed at my friends place.”

“Well, it’s settled then. I’ll let Mr. Petrov know you gladly accepted.”
