“I’m right here,” I reminded them as Bale looked between my brother and Cannon.

“Yes, you are,” Cannon spoke softly, stepping around my brother as he moved closer to the cell. “You’re a wild one, aren’t you, pup?”

His eyes glittered with wickedness and something else as he approached me. Unsure, I stepped back, stumbling over the deer’s leg. Looking down, I saw the remains of the carcass.

Limbs were torn, the belly ripped open, and the throat was shredded. This was me? It looked like a pack had descended on it, not one wolf. Not one girl.

“Kris?” My frightened whisper brought my brother closer.

“It’s okay. It’s your first time and natural to go…” He hesitated, searching for the right word.

“Wild,” Cannon said with a wicked grin.

“Feral,” Bale grunted at the same time, and I saw my brother wince at the pack leader’s choice of words.

“It won’t happen again,” I tried to assure the pack leader. “I’m okay now.” It was a lie. I wasn’t. I could feel the need building again, the hunger growling in my stomach, the heat in my core pulsing.

We all heard the shout, the sounds of fighting above us. Bale cursed and ran for the stairs, and Kris watched him go, torn between duty to the pack and to protect me.

“Kris, I need you now!” Bale ordered, and my brother still hesitated.

“Cannon,” Kris spoke sharply. “Help with your men up there would be welcomed.”

Cannon nodded as he kept his eyes on me. “In a moment.”

My brother went to speak, but Bale had reached the door and opened it. We heard the shouts and fighting getting louder.

The sound and pheromones crashed down toward me, and my feet took me closer to the bars. A whimper in my throat.

“Kezia,” Kris warned.

“Kristoff!” Bale shouted for him again, his pack leader tone forcing my brother to turn from me and run up the stairs to stop the brawling.

Brawling to get to me.

I should have been repulsed. I wasn’t. Instead, I was agitated. I wanted out.

“You’re stunning,” Cannon said as he watched me. “If I could take a picture of you like this, without your brother taking my balls, I would.”

Frowning, I looked down at myself. I was almost naked. My panties and sports bra were my only covering. Blood streaked all over me, painting me in gore. My hands were stained red with the deer’s blood as were my feet. Licking my lips, I tasted the dead dried blood on my tongue. My white hair hung around me, tinged with red.

“You fear my brother?” I asked him.

“No, pup, I respect his place as your protector.”

“Respect?” I looked over the mountain of a man in front of me. Strong. Solid. Sexy.

What the hell?

I saw his amusement as I looked him over, appreciating his build and physique, which made me angry.

“I’m surprised you know the word,” I taunted him. Rolling my head on my shoulders, I stretched my arms over my head, satisfaction running over me as I watched the alpha in front of me dip his gaze to take in my body.

“I don’t think you know it much either,” he answered as his gaze traveled appreciatively back up to mine.

“You haven’t earned my respect,” I jeered.

“Good.” Cannon moved closer. “I don’t want it. Yet.”
