“Oh, I’m so glad you’re enjoying it, Don Giordano. It’s my late mother’s recipe.”

It wasn’t. Aurora had seen it on Pinterest and then passed it along to the catering company.

But he didn’t need to know that.

“What do you think of your husband allying your family with mine?”

Suddenly the rambling old man was gone, and Aurora realized instantly that it had been an act all along. This was a test, and it was one she absolutely needed to pass.

“I don’t ask my husband about business. I just trust that he knows what he’s doing.”

Vittorio smiled. Aurora couldn’t be certain, but it seemed like it was a real one.

“My wife knew the game well enough to say the same thing in public. But she still had thoughts about everything. I’d bet good money you do too.”

“Perhaps,” she replied with a sly smile.

“And?”

“And those thoughts are for my husband’s ears alone.”

“You’re going to do quite well at this, I think.”

His flattery did what flattery usually does. It worked.

Maybe chatting with kingpins would be more fun than she’d thought… An idea occurred to her then, and after a moment’s hesitation she decided to take the risk of pushing the conversation in a less amicable direction in the hopes of gaining valuable information.

Even mafia wives had to yolo it sometimes, right?

“I’m curious about something, though, Don Giordano,” she said slyly… or at least what she hoped was slyly.

“Yes?”

“What do you expect to gain from this alliance?”

“Not very subtle, fanciulletta, but I can’t refuse a bride on her wedding day, so I’ll tell you exactly what I get out of this.”

She waited expectantly as he leaned in closer before answering.

“Your husband as a friend rather than a potential enemy.”

He said it simply, and she could tell from his tone that he meant it.

Apparently the man who’d be making her scream in bed later wasn’t just a mob boss.

He was a mob boss other mob bosses made damn sure to stay on the good side of.

There was definitely going to be a wet spot on her lace panties when Dante stripped her out of them later. She wasn’t even going to worry about trying to hide it, Aurora decided.

“Enjoy your special day, young lady,” Vittorio said before heading toward the open bar.

Aurora practically sprinted up to the bedroom after saying goodbye to the final guest at the reception. Dante followed close behind her, having just finished paying the caterers, and as soon as the door shut behind them she fell into his arms. It had been an eventful evening, but the most exhausting part had been the building tension between them since they’d kissed at the altar.

It had been almost painful watching Dante schmooze guest after important guest, looking composed and confident as he impressed them with his wit. They were lucky she hadn’t tackled him right there and consummated the marriage with an audience.

Dante held her close and kissed her hair. “My beautiful bride,” he said before holding her at arm’s length and roaming his eyes up and down her. She could see the moment his gaze changed from adoring to hungry, and she licked her own lips.

She was ravenous for him too.
