I scoff. "I assume they all ended up disasters. He probably told the men to run the second things got a little serious." I'm being a bitch on purpose. It makes me feel better and I know that neither my brother nor Dani actually believe a word I'm saying.

Dani is sitting next to me, letting me rest my feet in her lap. She rubs the top of my foot comfortingly.

"One of them is married with a kid," Crew says. "I wasn't here when he started dating her, but I’ve heard the stories. Coach kept him from fucking it up."

I roll my eyes.

Crew notices. “What?”

“I’m just shocked that Owen Phillips talked some guy into marrying a girl and having a baby,” I say, the sarcasm dripping. “That’s so traditional and sweet it makes me sick.”

Crew frowns at me. "Did it ever occur to you, that you just caught him off guard?"

I frown back. I did not expect to come over here and have someone defend Owen. That’s not how girlfriend-time-with-ice-cream goes. Crew needs to understand the rules.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“That Owen had an idea of what a serious relationship would look like and then you come barreling into his life with purple hair, and an independent-sassy-I-don’t-need-you attitude, and two bi-sexual boyfriends in tow, and maybe Owen needs a second to adjust?”

“First of all,” I say, trying to sit up straighter, but finding that this huge, very comfortable couch is too soft to really move quickly on. “They’re not bi-sexual.”

Not that it matters, but I kind of feel like I don’t have an argument here and that seriously irritates me.

“They both fuck guys and girls, right?”

“They both fuck me and each other,” I shoot back. “Because we all love each other. It’s not a wide-open thing. It’s about how we all feel about one another and…” I frown. “It’s none of your business.”

Crew sighs. “Fine. You’re right. Whatever. But maybe that’s part of what Owen’s trying to figure out, too.”

See? Him defending Owen and making sense is really annoying. "It's not like I planned on falling in love with three people either,” I say.

"I don't think anybody does.” Crew reaches out to tug on a strand of Dani's hair. She gives him an adorable smile, and he winks at her.

And I realize my best friend hasn’t done anything but hug me and hand me a spoon. Crew’s been handling this.

"But it's unconventional no matter how you look at it,” Crew goes on.

"Yeah, well, some of us adjusted to it easily because we realize what a gift love is,” I say. “And we realized that we want to be fucking happy. If he doesn’t, that’s his problem.”

I stab the ice cream with my spoon again.

"Yeah, and some people just need a little more time, Luna. He’s been doing the single dad thing for a while. Maybe he’s been avoiding relationships. And then the one that comes along that he can’t avoid consists of three people? Come on. Give the guy a minute.”

“Cam and Alexsei didn't need a minute. Falling in love with me was easy for them. Deciding to be with me was easy for them. Don’t you think I should go for the guys who want to be in love with me? Who find the idea of forever with me easy to wrap their minds around?"

"Yeah, well, Cam and Alexsei have probably found a lot of things easier. Cam's a billionaire. He works for himself. Lives with and is in love with his best friend. He's gay or bisexual or whatever.”

I open my mouth to protest, but he holds up his hand.

“I mean, it doesn’t matter. He’s comfortable with his sexuality, and I’m guessing he didn't have the wife, two-point-five kids, and white picket fence in mind, you know? And Alexsei is a hot, young hockey player with puck bunnies everywhere he turns. He probably hadn't thought about mortgages and dogs and PTA meetings at all. Owen, on the other hand, has imagined life and the future. Homeowner’s insurance and shared custody and shit for like seventeen years.”

“Sixteen,” I mumble. Almost seventeen.

But…fuck…I hate when my brother’s right.

I take a deep breath and look up from my melting ice cream.

“So what should I do?”
