Oh, I see what this is about.

Austin is here to protect Anthony. They’re rich, and I’m not. He’s making sure that I’m not using him, and as brazen as it is, I don’t blame him. Brothers should look out for each other.

“I’ve never dated someone older, no,” I answer honestly. “Would you like to stay for dinner?”

Austin and Anthony both look surprised as hell by the invitation.

“Or I could just rattle off my information for you so you can leave?” I challenge, tilting my head at him.

“Don’t entertain him,” Anthony says, tucking me into his side under his arm. “He needs to learn boundaries, which is exactly why I haven’t spoken to him about you yet.”

“It’s fine,” I reply honestly. Curving a brow up, I give Austin an assessing look. “You know I had to pass a background check to live here, right? You approved me. I make a hundred thousand dollars a year after taxes, and while it’s not millions or billions, I live very comfortably. I don’t want Anthony because of his money, I want him because he makes me happy. You should probably get used to the idea because I’m not easy to scare off.”

When the room is shocked into silence, I smile victoriously.

Eventually, Austin’s tight demeanor softens up and he looks at Anthony. “What are you cooking?”

“Nothing for you.”

I nudge Anthony’s ribs with my elbow. “Tell him he can eat with us.”

His jaw ticks, but he relents. “You can eat with us, but if you say or imply anything bad about my boyfriend again, I’ll actually deck you.”

Austin chuckles. “You can try, little brother.”

“Are you guys sure you’re not twins?”

Anthony glares at me. “He’s four years older than me.”

“Huh,” I saw, looking between the two of them. “He doesn’t look it.”

His brother finds this amusing, smirking at Anthony. “Well, he’s charming.”

“He’s off limits,” Anthony counters, biting out the statement.

Holding his hands up in mock defense, Austin smiles. “Got it.”

Dinner goes by much more smoothly than I expected. Austin is a businessman through and through so he’s pretty fascinated with how I make money. I kind of like talking about it with him, even though it’s not my favorite topic.

He makes me feel more professional about my craft and I like that like Anthony, he doesn’t write it off as being immature or kid-like. It’s a service just like any other, and I know I make thousands of people happy doing it.

When the meal is over, Austin has to get back to work, but he offers to host next time and when he leaves, I can’t stop smiling. I’d never met a guy’s family before. Rocky start or not, I feel great about it. Becoming closer to Anthony in every way is exactly how I want to spend my nights.

Preferably for the rest of our lives.

Chapter 8

Anthony

Two days after Austin crashed our dinner date, I’m freshly showered after work and letting myself into Milo’s place. Bush greets me immediately, purring up as storm as I scoop him into my arms, pressing a kiss to his furry little head. I’ve gotten extremely comfortable coming home to him and his dad.

Speaking of Milo, he skips into the foyer to greet me, a big smile on his face. “I’ll never get sick of seeing you with him,” he sighs happily, smacking a kiss on my cheek.

I give him a long glance, noting his low-hanging sweats and lime green cropped top. “You’re looking pretty today,” I drawl, setting Bush down on his cat tower. “You put this on for me, baby?”

Milo bites his lip and nods. “I was thinking you could fuck me today.”

Goddamn, I love it when he’s blunt.
