My little guy doesn’t have to force his love on Anthony because the man sets his flashlight down to give him some voluntary pets. I watch as he scratches behind my cat’s ear and try to keep my mouth from falling open in a slutty pant.

“What’s his name?” he asks, stroking the soft fur under my cat’s chin.

Collecting myself, I answer, “Bush.”

His nose scrunches, it’s slight, but it’s there. “… Like the beer?” he asks.

I can’t hold back a disgusted gasp. “No, like the bush I found him in.”

He blinks. “Makes sense.”

My arms cross. “Are you just saying that to be nice?”

“I don’t typically have the urge to be nice,” he replies, honestly prevalent in his tone. So he’s grumpy and hot? I’m so screwed.

I bite my lip to smother a flirty grin. “I can take him if you need him out of the way.”

He gives Bush a few more long pets and shakes his head. “You just need a new fuse. I have one in my kit. I can swap it out quickly.”

“You can tell that just by looking at it?”

Anthony nods, his dusty brown hair swaying with the action. “It's easy to spot.”

Apparently, it’s easy to fix too, because it doesn’t take him very long at all. And he does it with Bush rubbing himself all over his legs, twirling through his feet to get every angle he wants.

God, if Anthony weren’t already ridiculously sexy, he would be upgraded to a ten out of ten just for tolerating my clingy cat. Being sweet to animals is one of the most attractive things a man can do.

When he’s all done explaining the fixes he’s made, I look at the stove nervously. “It’s not going to blow up or anything, is it?”

He chuckles at my expression. “It’s an electric stove without a glass cooktop, if it blows up, it’s because you tried to cook a firecracker.”

“Oh good,” I reply, relieved. “I stopped eating firecrackers before I moved in, too many calories for so little flavor.”

I try to hide a grimace. What the fuck kind of joke was that, Milo?

Despite the terrible sarcasm, Anthony laughs. It’s throaty and deep; way too hot to be fake. My cheeks burn but my smile lights up.

“Well, you’re all set,” he tells me, reaching into his back pocket. God the way his arms look when they move should be criminal. He hands me a little business card with his name, phone number, and email address. “Just shoot me a text the next time something goes wrong. No need to worry about being a bother that way, I don’t mind it.”

I clutch the slip of cardstock like my life depends on it. “Really?”

“Sure.” He shrugs those hunky shoulders. “It’s my job, it’s not a problem.”

“Thank you,” I say immediately.

When he nods, I know it’s time to show him out. As much as I’d like to keep talking with him, I can’t seem too eager. I have no idea if this guy is into men, and I certainly won’t just come out and ask it. I’ve got his name and details now, I’ll do a bit of research before I jump to conclusions.

I’ve never gone after a straight guy before and I won’t start now, not even with how fucking hot this one is. I’m not built to withstand a hidden relationship. I need to be loved in the light—loud and proud. I crave being cherished in a way that everyone can see, and borderline worshiped in bed where no one else can see.

I don’t think that’s too much to ask, right?

Chapter 2

Milo

Unfortunately for me and my new man crush, my research on him will have to wait. My peak hours for weekdays range from six to midnight and I promised a solid start to the week. Becoming an ASMR Live Streamer was not on my list of dreams as a child—it wasn’t even an option—but I’m so damn happy that I’ve made it my career.

Any sort of nine-to-five job I’ve had in the past has only made me miserable, and even though this gig can make me a bit stressed and certainly strains my voice from time to time, it’s the best. I make my own schedule, earn more money than I did from my last two temp jobs combined, and I get to be social without all the nerves that come with in-person interactions.
